To add a little fuel to the fire here, the D's also didn't want to coun a lot of military absentee votes, if memory serves.

It doesn't logically have to have anything to do with something for Jackson to jump onto it and blow it up ... as long as a connection can be made, he'll go for it.

They use that as an argument to bash America. Whenever they need to make a point, they bring up the 3/5 of a man stuff. If they were truely in favor of defending the votes of blacks in Mi and Fl, they would demogogue it into a "black man only counts as half a vote" type argument.

My guesses:

Costs lots of money. And sets a precedent that you can break the rules and still get to vote later on.

Shouldn't the voters direct their anger at their state's party leaders? Hell, in NC here our vote has never counted for anything. We haven't changed the date either, and now this year we were arguably as important as any other.

The irony is if Michigan and Florida had kept their dates, they would've had as much if not more influence over the primary vote than any other state.
