I just hope the Madison Square garden rims aren't tiny like they seem to always be when we play there. (not just us, the other team too)

I think I'm joking.. maybe.

Transition defense will obviously be a big key. If we can keep them off the 3 line, I don't know where else a lot of points will come from for them, but they are quick so we'll see how well we defend their mid range stuff+ dribble & drive stuff in the lanes. But you know actually, even if they hit their season average of 10.3 3's, I would think ideally we may still be able to keep them below 60. Ideally.

We hold our TOs under 10 and we win by 15.

Too much hype about FAU and how the officials are going to call this game.

We have two players to Shut down Martin & Davis. Somebody is going to be in their pocket.

Their Bigs are a wash on the inside and I feel they will be intimidated by our bigs.

I anticipate that this team will shoot 30 to 35 threes. Hold them to 30% or less and we win which we will.

We held Alabama to 59 points without JJJ or Phillips

Our offense is physical as well with the screens so there is another factor not being considered.

All Tennessee has to do is stay in their lane, do nothing fancy and they win.
no I

yep they shot 31 threes vs FDU & just hit 9for 29% and we are supposedly #1 D on 3s in the nation. The numbers & inside advantage all speaks to a UT win unless we play a uncommonly bad game with numerous turnovers that let’s them get easy transition points not facing our half court D

I think one of the biggest factors is Madison Square Garden. The Mecca / worlds most famous arena is a place we have played the last 2 years. Not sure anyone on FAU has played there or not. Hoping this gives us a slight advantage and not be mesmerized by playing there, especially with the added pressure of a trip to the Elite 8 on the line.

We are in good condition, but some of our players are not as quick as FAU appears to be. We were not able to handle Missouri's quickness either time we pay this this year. Quickness also bother 3 point shooters. Quickness also bothers our big players when they put the ball on the floor. We should win the game by 8-10 points, but we will have to prevent turnovers or the game will be much closer than we want it to be.
Agree with all of this

Experience. FAU is a very young team and doesn’t have any tournament experience until this year. Also, they have probably never played a second in MSG. Most of our guys have played there twice. I’m not sure if this will come into play or affect anything, but you can’t imitate experience. My 3 big keys of the game to secure a win.

1) Guard the 3-pt line like it’s Fort Knox
2) Transition defense; force them into half court offense
3) Crash the boards and limit them to one shot possessions

Just rewatched the Alabama - Tennessee Game. Pretty Intense.
Alabama has talent, depth, quickness and SIZE.
Tennessee missing two players JJJ and Phillips.
ZZ play in that game was outstanding.
Offense was good and JJJ/Phillips must fill the void in the absence of ZZ.

Advantages:
Players will not overlook this game.
Nerves advantage of playing on a big stage. It's the NCAA tournament!
Preparation with a lot of options for TN. CRB is a great coach for prep.
Alabama made 9 - 3pt shots, committed 19 TOs, +4 Rebounds.
Defense still holds and is solid.

Keys:
Pressure Defense, Control Tempo and limit TOs. Pound the Ball Inside.
Match ups. Somebody or two players are going to go off Offensively.

If both teams play their A (or B or C) game - we win.
If we play our B game and they play their A game - it's a tossup.

Basically, we are the better team. If we played them 10 times, we would win at least 7.
We just have to make sure we play to the level that guarantees it's one of those 7.

Not sure from where all the references to having played twice at MSG are coming. The game against Maryland earlier this year was at Barclays Center.

Most on the team played at MSG last year vs. Texas Tech. I think that is the one MSG game over the last several seasons. It was a horrific game to watch for both sides - nobody could make a shot.

Right. 52-51. Couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn, the water from a boat. I wasn’t gonna bring it up, yo. 🧐
That was the one game we played at MSG the last four years. One. Not two.
