Florida getting a 2 seed is absolutely ridiculous

It sucks when you get hosed by the refs huh? At least that didn't happen in the sec quarterfinal games..

that's why i said earlier it's one thing if they change styles as long as they are consistent with both teams. in the SEC quarterfinals the refs changed the way they called the game at halftime from a physical let them play brand to a tightly officiated contest. however other than a couple overzealous handchecking calls which didn't send anyone to freethrow line they were pretty consistent with both teams. the freethrow disparity lined up pretty much with how the games played out during the regular season between UT and UF.

In Gainesville, Florida attempted 22 freethrows to UK's 13. In Lexington, Florida attempted 13 to UK's 15. UK and Florida's offensive styles didn't change from the regular season matchups but in the SEC tournament final UK attempted 29 to Florida's 8. Somehow Kentucky got to line more times in one game then they did in the previous two matchups COMBINED while Florida was relegated to almost half of their lowest number attempts between regular season games.

in conference play Kentucky and Florida got to the line virtually at the same rate. Florida attempted 323 in 16 games while Kentucky attempted 322 against the same group of opponents. Moreover Florida's the best team in the nation in avoiding fouls but somehow Kentucky ends up shooting almost 4 times as many attempts as us. Like I said the refs called one game for the team wearing blue and another for the one wearing white.

This, I believe is a result of the Dribble Drive. It creates a lot of trips to the line.

Do I think Florida was overseeded? Yeah, probably a little. Besides beating them twice, UK also beat these teams that are seeded the same or higher than them: Washington, Louisville, Notre Dame. They lost by 4 at 2-seed UNC.

What probably did UK in was losing all those SEC road games by 2.

Kentucky's been dribble driving all year and Florida does their fair share of driving into the lane. The teams offensive styles did not change.

That's why I compared it to the first two matchups and made note that Kentucky shot more attempts in the tournament final then they did in both regular season matchups combined while Florida got almost half of their lowest number between the two games.

The refs just swallowed their whistle when UF was in scoring position getting hacked and looked for any opportunity to blow it when UK was in scoring position. Boynton and Walker are the primary penetrators. They went just as hard at UK as they did the first two matchups where they averaged 8 attempts between them and drew the same kind of contact UK was getting bailed out with yet for the game they had ZERO free throw attempts.

Like I said earlier Florida wasn't playing stellar basketball especially once they let the one-sided officiating get into their heads but neither was Kentucky after their early hot streak faded and Florida pulled within 1 point with 13 minutes left in the first half. Conveniently that's when the refs went to work. Would have been nice to see who would have won if the refs actually attempted to call a consistent game.
