Florida may forever be a relic

To me the most important aspect of a head coach is their ability to lead. Some people can do it, most cannot. Pruitt may have looked like a good hire on paper but that is why there is an interview process. Fulmer interviewed Pruitt and, presumably, thought he would be a great leader. That is damning of Fulmer's judgement. Awful hire and Fulmer should have known that after speaking to that inarticulate Alabama hick. Dooley wasn't great but I guarentee he gives a better interview than Pruitt.

I don't disagree with this at all. However, with Dooley's resume, he shouldn't have even made the interview. It wasn't fair for him or us. I think we rushed hired him to have someone and, basically, hired him because he was the son of Vince Dooley.

Dooley went an ENTIRE RECRUITING CYCLE without landing a SINGLE OFFENSIVE LINEMAN.

That's next freakin' level, man.

Until Florida hires a doofus capable of THAT, they have no sympathy from me.

Nope. I was there for the Jabar Gafney NO CATCH. Maybe 15th row, lower level in the opposite corner of that endzone from where Gaffney was. It was right in front of my Dad and I. Only flarduh game I have ever been to in person at Neyland. Still makes me sick to this very day. Also... "Can't spell Citrus without UT."

I freaking hate them. With the intensity of 1000 pulsars. Beating Bama in 2022 meant more for the program...but to VOLS of a certain age, in the 40 to 60 range (i am 47) there is no better feeling than beating flarduh in cfb. I sincerely hope we hang 50 on them in 2 weeks. Last year, like so many years past, we had the superior team by far and still lost because Cooper couldnt play, and we were lost without him. Insane how many times we have lost to an inferior FU team. Payback time you sissies.

But it DID give rise to the new Physics measurement unit - The Gaffney. Defined as the shortest time interval that two objects with mass can share an energy field and be considered to have incrementally influenced each other's energy state.

The standard is the length of time the ball touched Gaffney's body.

So, there's that..........

Most classless, disgusting program in the nation. I hope they lose every game, every season for eternity and their piss bomb throwing fans have to sob theirselves to sleep every night.

Just curious, is there a story to the piss bomb throwing fans comment. If so that’s way over the line in my book. Also if so, was it like a water balloon strategy going on? I mean a little heckling, barbing, and things of that nature is acceptable and maybe even welcome from a rival especially on game day so long as it’s not too bad natured. Something like throwing urine on a fellow CFB fan or any other person for that matter is ridiculous. Just something that only an absolutely evil, wicked, and classless person would even think to do much less find any semblance of satisfaction in. Even in my sometimes drunken youth I could have never even considered throwing piss on another human being.

It happens every odd numbered year when UT comes to Gainesville. Tens of thousands of UF students, drinking all day prior to kickoff, are handed small balloons by stadium security as they enter The Swamp.

During the band’s pre-game routine there’s a mad rush to every restroom on the east side, where piss balloon staging begins.

Right after the national anthem, alma mater and pledge of allegiance, our student body stands as one, ready to attack our poor unsuspecting visitors from Knox County.

Then our honorary Mr. 2-Bits runs on the field, wearing a most conspicuous yellow t-shirt, leaving no doubt as to what’s about to unfold.

You already know what happens next.

Jim Nantz describes it as a tradition unlike any other.

R. Kelly calls it heaven on earth.

Welcome to The Swamp.

To me, what happened in the 1990's with Tennessee and Florida were aberrations.

Nobody else in the SEC had their **** together. Arkansas and South Carolina weren't ready for big boy football. LSU hadn't committed the resources to being an elite program. Alabama after Stallings and Auburn went on probation multiple times. Georgia couldn't hire the right coach. Ole Miss/Miss State/Vandy/Kentucky aren't big boys. Tennessee and Florida were the only two schools that had their **** together and then Meyer took over a great program (despite Zook's gameday mistakes) and feasted off Fulmer and Richt.

Now, it's so much harder. Alabama, Georgia, Texas, Tennessee and LSU all have their ducks in a row. Ole Miss, Oklahoma and Missouri have good programs. Kentucky isn't a bottom dweller anymore. South Carolina isn't posting 2-10 seasons anymore. You have big money at TAMU. Florida is just behind. And it's going to be very hard for them to get out until everything is aligned correctly, just like Tennessee had to do in 2021.

I have no respect for Bianchi, writer here in Central Florida, but this article of his, expounding on what Saban has had to say about UF, seems pretty spot on.

Florida's NIL collective is disorganized, even now, and the money we keep investing in coaches, expecting a turn around in 24 months, is just not going to work anymore. And we are comparing new coaches to what Spurrier and Meyer did, and without resources comparable to other teams.

Thing is, I have been up there a few times in recent years, and the university is different. I'm not complaining, its a much better academic institution than when I went there. Tougher to get into. More productive and focused. But that student body now seems far less interested in football than 30 years ago. And so does the school, itself.

I just think we may have reached a point where the momentum is not there to invest the time and money to try to be competitive again. We may easily be the next Nebraska. A legend to the old timers, a perpetual also-ran the rest of the way.

This article is 100% crap.

Florida will be dominant again and Napier is the guy who will get you there. He just needs a few more years to get his system in place. Just need to be patient.

I hope not @lawgator1 despite being young, 29, when florida is good football means more to us. For my Gen you are the biggest rival (might change if we stay good) for us. Older gen hates bama. I pray you are #2 in sec with vols #1, that is my favorite game each year.

Thanks for clearing it up and adding some first hand knowledge to those younger Vol fans that have been unaware of these golden showers.

You're joking, right? You'll never be Nebraska because of 1) recruiting footprint and 2) appropriate conference fit. Everything you just said about UF was said about Tennessee circa 2008-2021. Especially the "our admin doesn't care about football anymore" stuff.

The wild thing about college athletics is that once you get the "right" people in certain positions, things start to fall into place pretty quickly. Tennessee was a completely dysfunctional mess for almost 15 years but once competent people got involved the turnaround took a couple of years. TBH, you haven't had anything near as embarrassing as Schiano Sunday or Pruitt happen to your program (yet). We went 0-8 in SEC play in 2017, Hell, you've still managed to have 4 double-digit win seasons since 2012 and we had our first double-digit win season in 15 years a couple of years ago.

Basically what I'm saying is that I don't think you have hit the depths that UT hit, and you have structural advantages that UT does not (mostly recruiting-related). And FSU is currently a mess too, so you have that going for you.

And the crazy thing is the ramifications of this were pretty much felt across the entire athletic sector of the university.... Baseball, Basketball, Football.... Hell even the Golf Program is starting to get rolling in national rankings.

I have always enjoyed reading the Orlando newspaper and I was born in Winter Park which is a suburb of Orlando.
