Florida recruiting - yikes

Can only believe with the Exodus of Current Players and Recruits that something is gravely wrong with Florida.

$$$$ got the feeling, Our MacDonald's Bags are going to look like Rat Poop compared to their Handouts.
The Players know it,
the new staff knows it,
and the recruits know it.

Coach Fired, New Coach Cleans House, Players Leaving, and recruits decommitting.

Interesting.

I don’t know what Napier will do with actual time to recruit. But I do wonder what the long term effects of literally not having a real signing class will do. Yeah the transfer portal is a thing but it’s not a magical thing like in a Dr Pepper commercial.

I’m just saying, I remember the disaster that happened after Kiffin left and our recruiting class was barely salvaged. I’m not saying Florida has a Dooley by any means but signing so few guys…it’s gonna hurt. I don’t know why Florida fans seem to be denying reality here.

2 reasons.

1. they're not done yet. They will sign more people. Recruiting isn't done. I can't emphasize this enough. It's not over.

2. Long term. This is a long term deal. Florida isn't winning a national title next year. They're not making the playoffs. They're not winning the SEC. The goal is to build a consistent winner over the long haul. Where people are happy is that the new coach has delivered some big time gets on ESD with little staff and one week to work with. So, people are taking that as a sign of ......hell, if he can sign 2 5* players in a week, what could he do in a year? What can he do recruiting guys for 2 years?

He may fall flat on his face and fail. I don't know. We'll see.

But, no one is going to be drinking hemlock with a dude who has been on the job for a week, landing a few big time prospects, with a month and a half to try to get some more in a transition class which is always weak. He still doesn't have a complete staff yet.

If y’all Florida fans are excited about 50th in the country then I fell sorry for you. You may very well have back to back 4 win seasons and the AD may not be that patient.

The EE’s already being on campus helped, but Dooley had a much worse resume than Napier and still pulled a top 12 consensus class that year and flipped Da’Rick Rogers.

So I have no clue if Napier is the guy. He definitely could be and I get why UF fans are excited (especially after Mullen) but we won’t really know till 2023 about how good of a recruiter he is.

This mf'er just swooped in and in two weeks, got a 4 star corner flip from ND, the number one safety in the country, and a 5 star linebacker...I tried to tell people about this guy...This class is gonna be smaller, more subdued, Nape said he's gonna be patient and pick and choose the guys he wants to go after...But 23' and beyond? the flood gates open, I mean WIDE open.
The same ND that lost its head coach, who blew off the team, causing the new guy to have to go around an apologize to recruits?

Yeah it's amazing you kept a kid out of that frozen wasteland.

doesn't make any difference in numbers when Your PANTS are on FIRE they are ON FIRE.
RATs don't Flee Ships because there is a sprinkler Leak....
And just because things are on fire doesnt mean they cant be fixed. Look at what Heupel did this year for us.

We were a much worse dumpster fire and we took big steps almost anywhere

it has taken more than 13 yrs to fix our dumpster fire. FL just hired a coach that basically is cleaning house for some reason...Time will tell.

I’m not suggesting there aren’t problems that need to be fixed. There wouldn’t be a new coach if there weren’t problems.

But “clean house”. I think like 6 guys have left for the portal, which is probably a new norm for all programs but pretty low for a new coach situation.

He did cut loose people from the recruiting class (some choose to on their own as well). Again, normal with a coaching change.

I don’t get what some of you see that is out of the ordinary.

I get the class ranking thing, but that’s about how many they have signed and not what they signed. And, it’s not staying at 10 signees. There is a February signing day.

We lost some commits and some kids to the portal with CBN coming in, but we picked up some stars. Suggests to me that he is being honest with the recruits and current players as to what kind of team he wants to put together and some of the former commits or portal entries decided they don't fit that model.

I don't hold it against the players and I certainly wouldn't criticize CBN for it. If anything, a direct approach up front is a nice change of pace.

My sentiments exactly. Napier is not done.

And some have a hard time understanding why Gator fans are thrilled with yesterday’s ESD.

1) Napier snagged several big time guys that nobody expected, and he pulled them from Georgia, Bama and others.
2) He seems to have bridged a decade-long divide between UF and IMG Academy. It’s ridiculous that IMG has been a pipeline for Bama, Ga, Clemson and others for all these years.
3) Even with only signing 9, he still managed to take care of some positions of need; 3 OL, 2 DT, a big time MLB and 2 big time DB’s.

He’ll fill up the rest of the class via HS and portal. But for 9 days on the job, yesterday was the most fun I’ve had in years on a signing day. Adding to the fun was FSU’s historic debacle.

I’m not disagreeing I’m just not convinced so much optimism is warranted

Yeah recruiting isn’t over…except that most of the real recruits are committed. Yeah there are still some guys out but it’s ver difficult to fill holes or get splash commits after ESD.

I don’t know how Napier will do with a year, could be excellent, could be not.

The problem I see is that with only a few guys signed this year and no real way to pull off a good class of a decent class. You are looking at some pretty big holes at some point. Depth is an issue that hits eventually and when it does it hits HARD.

Im just saying…if this was TN I’d be worried about the next few years. Shoot, it’s why I got interested in college football in the first place. I wasn’t interested really until Kiffin left and articles talked about recruiting and the problem of losing a coach and a class the way we did. I started following recruiting info and found myself falling in love with the sport.

So I’m not saying this as a “oooh I genuinely want Florida to fail because I hate them” I mean I do want them to fail LOL. But In all honesty I’m just seeing some parallels and I feel like Florid could be in a world of hurt in the near future and I just see folks just saying “he look, but we got this one guy!”

It’s kind of like a leper losing his big toe and saying “but now it won’t be infected anymore”

Yeah, getting a big recruit is good but it doesn’t make up for signing just a few other guys.
