Florida State purchases "State Champions" Rings for Team

Because UF lost both last year ?

Because rings are for championships.

I don't count winning the Peach Bowl as a "championship".

Try to toss is my way all you want, but I find it hypocritical that a fan base of a school that handed out Gator Bowl rings (following a 7-6) season would pick on a school for a "state championship" ring.

I'm on record that both are dumb.

I'm not saying bowl rings are the best idea ever, but if you can't see the difference between a bowl ring and a team making a "state championship" ring...

This is essentially a consolation prize because FSU didn't win anything else. They lost in a bowl game and they didn't win their conference. Now, I'm also on record in this topic saying I also don't love the idea of bowl rings, but this just seems like a waste of money meant to give your players that participation trophy to feel good about themselves when they have nothing else to hang their hat on.

The redshirt juniors and seniors would have 3 ACCC rings and 1 NC ring a piece. I mean, there's options if they want a little more sparkle.

I don't have a problem with this. Would you rather beat UGA, UF, and Bama in the same season or win the Outback Bowl? And, I found humor in the posts that approved FSU giving a ring for this but disapproved the use of "State Champs", as if there's a better idea. Floridians believe they have the best football, so winning a "state title" like this means something to them.

FSU didn't win their conference, division or bowl game and they lost to 3-9 Georgia Tech, so yeah I think a ring I ridiculous. I get its recruiting, but you're still FSU.

I'm not saying beating Florida and Miami is less of an accomplishment than winning a bowl game. My only point in this entire debate is that a "State Champions" ring in college is a ludicrous idea. It just seems childish. I have never heard of a team doing this before. It just seems like a participation trophy since they didn't actually accomplish any of the goals they set out to do last season.

That's one of the worst recruiting tools I've heard of. Usually winning is the best recruiting tool.

To me it's stranger because it's FSU. They have a great football tradition, and just won the National Championship 3 years ago. It's as weird as the story about IU putting up a plague for upsetting UK in the regular season a while back.
