Florida State to join the SEC? (Link)

The state of North Carolina would give the SEC a footprint into a populous market place. We will likely look at UNC, NC State and even Duke. Duke brings a private school into the equation to go along with Vanderbilt and will add a great basketball program to the mix.

We could never get Duke or UNC without the other, and that state isn't valuable enough to take both. And I just don't see NC State as a big enough fish. I could almost see us taking Maryland over NC State.

NC St really also has tighter ties to duke and unc (& wake) than people seem to give credit

Va Tech is the only ACC team that really seems worth the trouble. I think it's likely that the 14th school will also come from the Big XII.

If this all about expanding the conference into new media markets, I think Missouri has as good a chance as anyone of being the 14th. They aren't that far out of the way regionally, it gets the SEC into a couple of different media markets, and they don't have strong ties to anyone in the Big 12.

Not saying it is going to happen but what carries more weight? Dominating the ACC or doing well in the SEC?

The one you can dominate in usually

Going from having or near having a BCS spot each year to yearly 8-9 win seasons, won't really help them if they start to fall down to ole miss, miss St, arky levels

Odd ESPN is wording it "talks" even though SI is reporting otherwise

.....then again, ESPN seems to have based this on their early in the day report from the palm post (or w/e it was called) as opposed to SI's comments from the FSU president later in the day

Tech and clemson both.

Again, can't see any reasonable scenario under which any acc team bolts.

neither va tech or maryland will truly pull the dc market; like nyc, college football simply isn't a big deal there.

The more I think about it, the more I suspect a&m comes alone.

I don't get why they would do that. The should own the ACC

$$$$$...They can win and make X number of dollars in the ACC since they share profits between the 4 or 5 schools that make bowl games <OR> lose and share XXX number of dollars with the SEC that puts 10 teams in bowl games. They have television contracts. They have more fans. They have more media involved which generates even more revenue through various media outlets.

DEFINITELY a better move. Hands down.

College football most definitely is. Have you been to Northern Virginia lately? Loads of Tech grads. Tech opened up there last year partially to placate their loads fans in the northern part of the state.

Get off the VA Tech bandwagon. They bring nothing to the SEC!!!!!

I was in northern va in november, and I see more oregon state gear here than I did va tech apparel, which is to say not a whole lot.

Easier for them to get to the NC.
More money and security by joining the SEC.
Keeping the FSU-Florida rivalry inside the SEC could actually end up helping them.
Too many pluses.

I don't get that either. With Florida locked into the schedule, FSU running the table in any given year gives them as good a shot as anybody to make it to the BCSMNCG.

Most fans don't wear that stuff around daily. Unless you're talking about in stores?

Most of my friends that have graduated from Tech have moved to either NoVa or Charlotte- same as many of the more recent, football fan grads.

Just saw on ESPN ticker that FSU talks are now getting serious although FSU has yet to discuss with ACC.

FSU brings nothing to the bottom line of the SEC. They actually hurt more than help. UF, Aub, and Ga will have an issue with them coming in and cutting into recruiting. Plus, their tv market is nothing.

A&M brings the Houston market. Okl or Okl St will tap some of the Dallas mkt. Va Tech or Maryland bring the DC/No Vir mkt. UMia would be good if the city of Miami actually supported college football. Who ever is added in addition to A&M will have to increase the bottom line, not decrease or keep it the same.

Its all about the Benjamins

They're notorious for only selling out big games and being a little over half-full for the rest; but I'm wondering if being in the SEC would increase interest. You'd think if you had teams like Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Georgia, and Florida coming regularly, and I'll throw us in when we get better, that it would create a bigger interest than most of the ACC schools.

I cant imagine UM vs Vandy, Ky, Miss St, or Ole Miss would put enough butts in seats to even hire concession workers
