Florida vs USF

Then teach me as to the point @Rickyvol is making.....

Those who can, do..... those who can't, teach.
He’s saying that there are very very few coaches that ever win multiple national championships.
Quick google search and I count only 15 coaches in the entire history of football, could be missing one or two but that’s just a quick look. Only two or three that are actually still alive, only one still currently coaching a football team.

Probably worth adding that in the long history of football, until pretty recently the NC was decided in a pretty screwy manner. This is why there are schools that claim more NCs than actually earned or decided on. So that makes it all the more confusing.
But basically, it’s pretty freaking rare.
For example, Joe Paterno was coaching Penn State for decades with over 400 wins but he only won 2.

Nick Saban has made a lot of fans think like this. Nothing more, nothing less.

Two, Dabo and Saban, are still active who've won more than one natty.

yep, I missed him. Like I said, super quick google search without any real checking. Point stands that it’s still pretty stupid to say Fulmer only getting one Natty isn’t a legitimate accomplishment
Dabo kicked well beyond his coverage for a couple of years and Clemson is returning to earth now, IMO.

I'm not a Fulmer fan, but it's extremely difficult to win a Natty, and he deserves lots of credit for having done it.

Fan expectations are ridiculous. "He got one, so he should've gotten more because look at Saban....." is just nuts. They think every coach that wins one has a dynasty in the making.

Dynasties are the exception in football, especially in the championship era.

South Florida woke Florida up in this game and the South Florida coach will probably get better job opportunities in the future.

Exactly, Saban is not at all the norm.

Saban had the perfect storm of boosters who let him do what he needs to do, admin support for whatever he needs from them, a great recruiting persona, and a disposition that lets him gather damn good coaches into his program without egos going crazy. The SOB can also coach.

We've seen great recruiters at UT who couldn't coach. We've seen boosters who want to meddle in the program. We've seen egos clash among the staff and among admins over control.

Anyone who thinks it's easy to win one Natty is crazy but expecting more than one like expecting multiple no-hitters from a pitcher. "Well, you threw one..... you should just do that again."

Urban Myer could have (and still might) won as many as he wanted, had he been a sane person. He had college football by the balls for a few years, and not even Saban was as good. He kept making up excuses to take a few years off here and there for reasons that only he and God know, and that eventually caught up with him. I don’t like the guy at all, but he had the system figured out better than anybody.

I think Meyer's time has passed in college because NIL makes his mastery of the "dark art" of getting kids paid is worthless now.

Also, social media and cameras everywhere make keeping legal problems strictly "in house" (as Meyer did in FL) impossible. It's harder now for a coach to keep a lid on what he lets the kids do.

Also, Meyer is a sociopath who doesn't care if he leaves a program in shambles, sacrifices an assistant coach's career, or covers up virtually anything. He's devoid of conscious. At this point, he's a tough hire for all but the most corrupt, devoid of morality schools...... ND that killed a kid for film.... Baylor that admitted the entire school turned a blind eye to rape, not just for athletes.... maybe North Carolina that admitted making academics a joke for any student, not just athletes. It takes a special kind of school to hire Urban Meyer and I don't mean that in a good way.

Disagree with you there. His first "heart issue" retirement or whatever it was he knew what Saban was building in Alabama. His second one, I honestly believe he was in disbelief that the Buckeyes had suspended him and was peeved.

Urban is a great front runner. I'm not so sure it takes much more coaching talent to win at Florida or tOSU than ihan it does to win at LSU. He is-or maybe was by this point, a great recruiter though.

He surely wasn't that innovative when you stop to think about it.

His one coaching stop when he had to actually coach and not much else-the Jags-he bombed at.

I'm just not so sure Urban would be the homerun everyone seems to be thinking he would be at this point. Nebraska knows that and Urban probably knows that.

Tennessee is going to pound Florida i believe 45-28 and it will be a struggle for Florida to go 7-5.

Urban suffered under the delusion that you can treat millionaire professional athletes like college kids and they’ll still respect you. Same thing Saban suffered from with his stint in the nfl. I’m sure he found out about 5 minutes into the job that it wasn’t going to work but he didn’t know any other way to coach, so just mailed it in and cashed the checks for a year.

Heupel in the NFL would run circles around the “NFL careers” of Saban/Meyer/Spurrier.

Don’t forget he had the crooked Bama recruiting network, which goes through state officials to school admin to boosters to the athletic dept.

USF leads the mighty Gators 7-3 1st quarter...Gator defense looks horrible.
Florida escapes that one.

UF looked a little vulnerable on run defense. Hopefully UT can dial up some big run plays next week opening up Hooker to hit them with some deep bombs and UT will get the victory! That would be so nice!

I see what you’re saying but give a contemporary play-calling coach like Spurrier the rosters Phil had and you’re telling me he doesn’t win more than one? Maybe there’s an argument Phil had those rosters because he was arguably the best recruiter in his day, however.
