No, no, no.  Nice try.

You are the one who claims on above post that BOTH lsu AND ut wanted to keep the game on Saturday.  All sorts of links on here with Fulmer saying no way was he flying into a hurricane.  So, if ut didn't want it, that means someone did. Ummmmmm.... LSU?

Dude, seriously, are you not embarrassed that the almighty buck and the tradition of being drunken slobs just so you can be noisy was apparently causing your administration to have a brain aneurysm and demand to have the game on a weekend?

What kind of nonsense is that?

Again, where am I going wrong on this?  I am utterly amazed at the whole scenario.

At the beginning of the week, no one knew exactly where Rita was going to hit. So as far as UT not wanting to come to Baton Rouge, they just made a correct prediction. It was a good guess on their part. But as far as even the weather experts could tell, they had no idea if it was going to to Mexico or head up to Louisiana again. But that was mostly Phil expressing his sentiment. Unless you are blindly following coach, what's so implausible about being a UT fan and wanting to play the game on the weekend? It's not so black and white. There shades of grey, of course.

But to say that LSU is in it for the money, well there are two responses I can give you:

1. *sarcasm on* LSU does not care about human life.. Only money. You are right... Good job Tennessee fans, you saw through us. When the rest of the world saw us giving up our facilities and class time to help evacuees and the terminally ill, you weren't fooled. We were really trying to get money, we didn't care about their lives. When we gave up one of our home games, we were REALLY trying to screw over Tennessee. *end sarcasm*

2. Our governor, Kathleen Blanco, has indefinately suspended executive branch spending in the state. LSU falls under that spending. So as you might guess, we are in desperate need of money, seeing as we just loaned alot of money for new students and accepting exacuees in our facilities. I could go on with the whole hurricane deal, but I'm sure you know enough about it already. The bottom line is, we do need money.

Anyways, I stick by my original statement: The right choice was made. LSU and UT both agreed on the terms. What more can you ask for?

Well thanks, but not necessary. Its just common sense that you don't insist on playing a football game under these circumstances. It is possible that it won't be that bad there or that conditions would at least be marginal by game time. But they might not be and you can't decide that 30 minutes before a college football game. There is just too much at stake logistically.

What I am struggling to understand is that, if it is true LSU insisted on playing on Saturday or Sunday, why? What is the reason for that? There may be a legitimate one, but the only reasons I can think of are booze and bucks and neither one to me is remotely worth the risk of having people travel in that weather. Heck, their own fans, driving on those roads .. it would just be dumb.

Then, we get to the second issue, which is that based on Fulmer's statement that he was ready to cancel outright unless the game got moved, ultimately to Monday, LSU appears to have caved rather than face losing all that football money.

So, if what I am reading here is right, that means LSU insisted on a Saturday or Sunday game to make money and be a pain in the ass with their tradition of drunken fans. And then, when UT said they would rather not crash their airplane just so LSU could have its way, LSU panicked and said okay to Monday so it could keep the home game dollars.

This all assumes that the facts I have been reading on here are true. I am still waiting for that one guy on here to tell me if LSU's position yesterday in the phone call was to keep the game on the weekend. If that is true, then in my mind I'm having a hard time seeing any other explanation for the sequence of events other than out and out LSU greed at the risk of the health and safety of UT players and fans and LSU's own players and fans.

Mmmmmm. Let's see. Oh, I know! How about not making fans or players go into a hurricane for a football game.

P.S. I can't give you an aswer to the phone call question. I have no idea what our AD said in the conference call. Common sense tells me he easily foresaw the danger of TN flying/traveling in some fashion for the game.

Is that the case? I wasn't aware that the hurricane was going to still be here on Monday. I guess Florida fans must be expert meterologists. Sorry for being ignorant.

"LOL...a Gator sticking up for Vols"
*************************************

Well ,

1. Thx to the Gator.

2. It's just a good COMMON SENSE decision not to play the game while a 'cane strikes the Louisiana south coast and it's Western state-line area.

3. Also, the National Hurricane Center has predicted this 'cane will stall someplace near the north Tex-La state-lines. It's supposed to be held down/blocked by a meterological HIGH pressure system over the midwest. In this position it's supposed to really blow and rain for sometime.

The hurricane should be gone by monday. It's weakening already.

If the hurricane does any lasting damage to the area, which I doubt it will, then I am sure the game will be cancelled. But any damage to the area is doubtful especially with it weakening and Baton Rouge being at the very edge of it all. Just lots of rain.

Anyways, it's inevitable that this will be used as an excuse when Tennessee loses.

I just hope you don't use "it was a distraction" excuse.

Can not tell them nothing. From cradle to grave they have it figured out.

Not much of 'cane?

1. ONLY 125 mph winds

2. What about the STALL?

3. What about it's 300 mile width?

4. It's not going to stop just for a football game

Water is still seeking it's own level.

You should run for office. Please. Surely to God you can see that just because a hurricane is no longer significant on the "radar screen," doesn't mean it's not still having significant effects. It's been 3 weeks since Katrina and they are still pulling bodies out of New Orleans. Hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced, traffic is a disaster, hospitals are overrun. . . .the list goes on and on.

This arguing with LSU fans/morons has become stale. It is blatantly obvious who has acted "childish," and it is NOT the team and coach that refused to fly its kids INTO a disaster area, against the flow of EVACUEE traffic. Your defense of the LSU AD has failed, the motive of $$$ has been established, and now all you are left with is smack-talk -- understandable since the new gameplan will not allow almost any of us to be there and talk back after we drop the Kitties out of top 10 Monday night.

Methinks that a mix of cajun inbreeding, hot sauce, and cheap beer has sapped any grain of common sense from the entire state.

All I'm saying on this thread and in these posts is that IF the facts are that the LSU administration was willing to risk life and limb of players and fans (for both UT and LSU) just to have the game at LSU and on a Saturday, then I am just appalled. Probably never know that for sure. I know that if it were UF doing that I'd have something to say to my alma mater. Loyalty is one thing. Blind allegiance another.

At this point, let's just agree to hope and pray that there is no more loss of life and that the damage to property is as minimal as it can be.

I imagine a decision about the game will be made by Saturday night or Sunday morning, in plenty of time for UT to get there safely. Right now, I'd say 50-50 based on the forecast for the remnants to stall out. Remember, the winds might be down to 20 m.p.h. then, but it will rain for days and heavy, too. To the point of flooding the area and that localized flooding presents its own set of issues.

What I will take credit for is my post at 10 a.m. EST yesterday:

"After watching the satellite loop, noting that the models are moving further East, and also noting that the TPC has not issued its 11 a.m. advisory yet (they run behind when they plan a significant change), my official prediction is that the forecast track is going to shift to the La./Texas border, placing pretty much all of La. under the East side of Rita and pretty much guaranteeing no game for you. Right now, I'd say 70 percent chance it gets cancelled."

Wait, I'm not following.  I thought that LSU said no to postponing the game at all.  They wanted Saturday or, worst case, Sunday.

Then UT said, well, we can't do that so its Monday night or we forfeit.  In which case LSUis out krillions.

So they folded like a cheap tent and said okay to Monday.

What am I missing?

One fact you are missing is that Tennessee made no threat to forfeit. They said after the rescheduling, in a news cast, that they were prepared to forfeit. LSU didn't capitulate under a threat, as you assert.

Actually, the story says only that UT said that it was willing to forfeit. It does not say one way or the other WHEN, i.e. whether UT made that known during discussions about the game.

LSU cancels classes, operations on Monday, Sept. 26, in order to carry out Hurricane Rita clean-up, repairs

09/23/2005 04:52 PM
Due to the expected effects of Hurricane Rita on the LSU campus, all classes and operations at the university will be cancelled on Monday, Sept. 26. The class make-up date will be Thursday, Oct. 6.

In addition, LSU had been notified by state emergency officials to expect the arrival of special-needs evacuees at the Maddox Fieldhouse. Contingency operations are also under way to begin resumption of acute-care activity in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

It is expected that storm-related damage to campus could be comparable to Hurricane Katrina. Consequently, LSU Facility Services estimates that it will need approximately two days to remove fallen trees, clean up debris, restore any power outages and repair damage to structures and roadways. National Weather Service forecasts predict that the most storm-intense activity will end in the Baton Rouge area by Sunday morning, enabling Facility Services to begin the clean-up and restoration of campus to safe and operational status starting Sunday afternoon.

To facilitate this process and to provide expedited restoration of the LSU campus, classes and operations will be cancelled on Monday. Essential employees are reminded that they are required to report for work as usual on Monday, and should contact their immediate supervisors for possible assignment this weekend. Facility Services will require that the campus streets and parking lots remain clear on Sunday and Monday to ease the clean-up process. Campus police will restrict parking until mid-afternoon on Monday. Members of the LSU community who wish to assist with this clean-up effort may volunteer by calling Facility Services at 225-578-6542.

The LSU Union will close at 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23, and remain closed until Sunday, Sept. 25. The Student Health Center will maintain regular hours on Saturday, will be open for emergencies only on Sunday and resume normal hours starting Monday. The Pentagon and Highland Dining Halls will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. during the weekend. Various dining options will be available at the Union on Sunday and Monday. The Recreational Center will remain open throughout the weekend and next week. Campus transit services will not run Friday and Saturday due to the storm.

For additional information and updates, visit the LSU website at www.lsu.edu, listen to KLSU 91.1 FM, or check local media.

]and lo and behold it turns out LSU had to be threatened with missing out on the big bucks to have the game on Monday?

So....you were wrong in the first statement of this thread?

Mind you, I agree that having the game tomm should NOT have happened....I think Monday is fine
