For the fans who said the Vols “choked”

...Or would “pack it in” or otherwise took shots at this team when the chips were down...

This isn’t your win. This win is for those of us who stuck with this team. This win is for this team that never quits and has pulled out wins after the chips were down all year.

But it’s not for the fickle or the chicken littles or the football/basketball fans who only took notice because this team has had success, then you act like they owe you something. Because you don’t deserve it.

Just know that.

Virtue signaling at it's finest.

You know your team is doing good when fans are arguing about being negafans or not when your battling for first place.

Preaching from the guy with a football avatar, classic.

It makes more sense when you realize that he played football for the Vols.

Yet preaching to baseball fans. Mmkay...

There are a ton of people on VN that have former players as their handle.

Fan is short for fanatic. My fanaticism has never won or lost a game for the Vols (even though I’ve tried my best, lol). As fans, if we are honest, we have all straddled the fence with “great win” and “terrible loss” by the Vols. However, both of those are better than fan apathy, when no one cares either way.

I’m not preaching to baseball fans. I’m criticizing the toxicity of fairweather negative fans. How is that hard to understand? Furthermore, what does it have to do with my avatar?

In case you have not been notified, this is a message board. You put up shat, you get shat back.

I took the position that negative fans who crap on this team that has given us a magical season and fought hard all year need to pound sand.

You took the position defending the fans who attack our team and generate negativity. Way to be a Vol.

Both positions are telling. I know this is a message board. And I’m very comfortable with my position on this issue. Toxic fans are just that. Toxic.

Once again, throw out your opinion, expect responses.
You can do it without coming off as a the one and only “true fan”.
No has the high ground here, especially not someone that self appoints.

I’m new to the baseball VOLS. How can I watch them ? Especially when it comes to the tournament in a few weeks! I’ve only been able to catch bits and pieces of games this year. I love Tennessee football and have always enjoyed baseball so this is exciting, just wish I knew how to consistently watch them. I live in Texas so going isn’t an option

Regardless of why we are all celebrating the BaseVols, we are celebrating them. New fans are learning the virtues of baseball. Those of us who were there yesterday experienced a life long memory and epic moment. When Max got up to bat, I couldn’t help thinking the winning run is at the plate. This team is every bit as much of a never-say-die team as any you have ever seen. Thanks to CTV, Coach Anderson, and the other coaches. I hope Danny White was there and realizes this program deserves the same degree of commitment as football and basketball.

GBO! Now go out and bring home the series win!!
invest in this coach and get our games televised and Tennessee will rise. Damn I wish I lived closer

The word "choke" is used way too much. I don't think Friday's loss was a "choke" and if we had lost yesterday it wasn't a choke. Just because you're ahead and end up losing doesn't qualify it as a choke, especially when it's the best team in the country. There's a reason they are #1 and it's not because they give up after getting behind.

IMO a "choke" has to fit certain circumstances. It's a subjective thing but to me chokes have to do with having a rather large lead or in command with not much time left and a situation where if you just take care of business for the reminder of the time you win. Like if the Vols went into the top of the 9th up 5-0 Friday night and then gave up 6 runs and ended up losing....ok that would probably fit a choke. But being up 5-0 with 8 more innings....nope, you have the whole game left.

Examples of choke to me: Tennessee losing in the 2000 NCAAT Sweet 16 to UNC. In control the whole game, up about 8 with 4:00 to play and then didn't score again until about 30 seconds left and it was too late.

Another example of a choke has to do with not rising to the occasion when the situation favors you and you are the better team; the biggest example to me is the 2001 SEC Championship Games. Vols were #2 and a win over a good but not great LSU team we had already beaten puts us in the NC game. We were up a touchdown at the half and generally felt like we had the game in control and we flat out choked the second half.
Two words. Quarterback Draw.

I bought the HULU/Disney+/ESPN+ bundle for $13.99/mo. Every college game you wanna watch is on ESPN+. Of course, as we advance further in the postseason, more will become available on regular TV.

Cool I’ll see if I can’t figure it out sometimes I get lucky and it’s on SEC network

Don't remember anyone saying the Vols choked at any point. It is true that Vitello appeared to tighten up in the first game and stymied two rallies by attempting to play small ball in the 1st and 4th innings of game 1. That is not how this team has played all year and I'd bet if he had that to do over again he would play it differently. In fact, he did play it differently in the bottom of the 9th in game 2 and it paid off in a huge way. That's the beauty of baseball.

Part of the fun of baseball is discussing the strategies involved and seeing how it plays out.

The best deal in (legal) media entertainment, IMO. It also gives you access to ESPN+ print content on their site. It's a great deal.
