For those wanting a big name coach

LOL

I know as well as you that Frank is more well known than Martin, but he is NOT what would be considered a "big name" in the world of basketball. At least not in my opinion. He hasn't won anything of substance as a head coach.

Frank's not a big name, but Romar and Barnes are?

Who? Since there is no question in that rocket science mind of yours

Tennessee under Hamilbum has been the College poster child for knee jerk coaching hires, hires that don't pass the smell test and you can add this new clown to the list. We go after the supposed "diamond in the ruff" the only thing wrong with that philosophy is that it only succeeds about 25% of the time and we don't need that kind of dice roll to bring our football, basketball, and baseball programs back. Mike Hamilton is a loser and those of us who want him gone need to be vocal in our rebuff of his incompetence.

everybody wants cuonzo to win every game and go on to a NC .. as fiji says, it's probably a bigger roll of the dice than getting someone who has shown some success in the tourney in March ..

the bottom line is we probably didn't want to spend the $$$ to get those type of coaches .. it's OK if that's the bottom line, but there's no reason not to acknowledge that that's where we are as a program ..

just like the situation with daniel west a couple of years ago .. why not just admit that he probably got hosed instead of sweeping it under the rug ..

I don't know why we didn't go after Bob Knight, as of right now he is still the most winning coach ever (NCAA). Plus he has 3 natl championships to his name. Even though he is a Espn analyist, he probably might have been available. However I still love the choice of Counzo!!!!

He hasn't won anything of substance as a head coach. Again, Marshall might be more well known than Martin, but still isn't a "big name".

Larry Brown?????? Please. I know he has expressed interest in getting back into the college game, I just don't think we would want to go in that direction

Please understand I was being totally sacarstic about you having a rocket science mind. I know very well that you don't

If you are referring to pulling coaches out of Duke, Syracuse, N.Carolina, Kentucky, etc. as the only big name coaches, then you are correct that we would not have been able to pull a big name coach by your definition. However, there are many coaches that are bigger names than Martin that we could have hired; that is my point. You are correct about my not having a rocket science mind, but at least I do have a mind that functions quite well. Wish I could say the same for you.

Ham didn't want Knight because he knew if he pulled a stunt like he did at the tourney this year, he'd of got his ass kicked.
I love this hire!!!
But, yes it's a roll of the dice.

New coach is a clown? I missed the memo. I would like to genuinely see a list of "big name" hires by all the BCS schools in bball and fball over the past 10 years or so. I think it's closer to what we've seen than what bama did with saban. Only a few coaches have taken more than one team to a final four and other than saban I can't think of one that has won NC with two schools in football. Muschamp may or may not work at FL. Meyer worked out fine; a guy that won his conference, just like Martin did. Chizik...well, we know how that went. The point is, just because it's not a "big name" doesn't mean it's a bad hire. Maybe someone with more time can compare hires in the past 10 years with BCS schools for a little comparison. But hey, we really won't know until this time next year about Martin.

Bob Knight would have been a fun hire since we are speculating on possible big names.
