Former Pearl Assistants struggling (split)

Bruce should have helped these guys out, especially if that $1 million buyout was tax free (which I think it was)

It's just the right thing to do especially when families have kids in schools and mortgages to pay

Bruce Pearl is unemployed?

And it's laughable that you don't think Kiffin would have torpedoed the program. You of all people should cut a little slack to the 'Pearlophiles.'

No, I'm sure he's found his life's passion with the random marketing job he got as a favor.

He at least knows how to cover his ass. When you see me telling people he will or should be back in three years, I'll be just like the Pearl slurpers.

It's really not the right thing to do.

The right thing would be these guys nutting up, finding employment, and paying their bills. Not looking from handouts.

It's not even financial help they were looking for.

If I didn't have kids, the wife and me could live on 20K a year, 30K no problem.

ya me and my wife actually live in a 3 bedroom apartment while I am in school. We only make about 22k combined and still put back 200 a month in savings. I have HD cable tv, internet, netflix, gamefly, etc.

We are doing fine, a little stressful sometimes but hell 22k isn't alot of money. I don't even get food stamps even though I could. Once I get out of school I just hope I get a decent job and keep my frugal habits.

What?
and both said Pearl hasn't otherwise offered to help financially in any way, which is irritating on some level because most believe that in this specific situation it was Pearl's misdeeds that cost everybody their jobs.

Good part.
He also said that he gave them Christmas bonuses last December worth "five to 10 times more" than they usually got because he knew their salaries had been docked, and that he helped get them the severance package they received from Tennessee.

I wouldn't give these bums a dime either.

The writing was on the wall once the photo came into play. All down hill for them and Pearl came out smelling kinda like a rose...depending on who you ask.

Families and children have been affected. Bruce should have paid his assistants full salaries (or half) for 1 year with the $1 million he got and Bruce still would be able to keep a nice amount himself.

This is a different situation then you and I and the company we work for going BK

Sounds like these guys are really grinding to keep that house out of foreclosure.

"There are a lot of things in my life that I've gotten back by not being at the high-major level," Forbes said. "Jason and I have actually got to enjoy college football. The last two Saturdays I got to watch 10 hours of college football. It's been great. I haven't had to worry about who's coming in on an unofficial visit. Or where they're staying. Or how they're getting there. I haven't had to worry about how they only get three tickets but five people showed up. You know, things like that. There's so much stress involved."

....

"Those guys have all been here," Forbes said, and the list of guys includes West Virginia's Bob Huggins, Memphis' Josh Pastner and Lamar's Pat Knight. "They're all out on the road running around like chickens with their heads cut off, but I don't have to go anywhere. I coach my team and go home. The pace of my life is just so much more sane."

what makes one a "Pearlophile or a Fulmerite".? im not being an ass, but I have seen those terms thrown around alot and Im not sure what puts you in the running for those monikers.

A 20-something know it all is able to emphasize a point better if they throw those out there during discussions. If you disagree, you are one.

I've been there. Now I own my home and cars. That's a huge help. I don't have cable or sat tv, or netflix, or gamefly (not even sure what that is). I've not swiped a credit card in 8 years. If I can't pay cash I can't afford it.

I don't feel sorry for the Shay family in the least bit. Anyone making over 100K a year for 5+ years should own a home.

Pearl owes them nothing, imo. They survived on his coat tails for years and made much more money while at Tennessee than 99 percent of their profession.

This.

Don't you know they come out of college ready to solve all the world's problems? Then reality smacks the ever living sh*t outta them.

I wonder what Gary Parrish is doing to help out these former assistants. After all, it was him and his fellow sports writers at CBS and elsewhere who were constantly calling for UT to fire Coach Pearl and his staff over the minor indiscretion of having a potential recruit over for a cookout. You'll notice that he never goes after Calipari for any of his violations, though. Or even Missouri's Frank Haith for buying a recruit while he was at Miami. Looks like Gary wants their assistants to stay gainfully employed.
