I have a hard time believing that the 4 Belmont students didn't say something in response to the threatening comments that escalated the situation. I can understand a situation where bironas leaves the house angry or impaired, pulls to a stop and makes an inappropriate response to a misunderstood communication from an adjacent vehicle, the shocked and insulted passengers of the adjacent vehicle respond in kind unaware of the mental state of the other driver triggering a violent and disproportionate response. Unsuccessful in his effort to run down the object of his ire a still fuming Bironas crosses paths with another vehicle whose mere lawful presence on a public road that he's using is irrationally taken as an intentional act of provocation.
There's a lesson in there somewhere. There also now seems to be some question about whether the police made an unrecorded stop of Bironas between the two incidents, something that metro pd denies and the timeline may not even allow for. Then there's people calling the open line news show on one of the local television stations who are alleging that he was cut from the Titan's roster for reasons that may tie into this incident.Even if the 4 students did, it doesn't change much IMHO.
Why ambien? His actions seem more like steroids or something... Perhaps with some alcohol in the mix? I am guessing that he was on something. Poor Rob
Delusions and violence are a possible side effect of Ambien. My wife has a good friend whose brother committed suicide despite being known by everyone as a bubbly, happy individual. The only change in his life was that he had just started taking Ambien that week.
I mean it makes sense. Bironas was not in the NFL anymore and he's been in there for what like 13 or 14 years? I believe he was going to work out for a few teams soon but I think he might have been depressed he was no longer kicking in the NFL. Being already depressed and taking Ambien on top of it is not a good combination.
Another thing is he might not have been prescribed Ambien. Maybe a friend gave him some or his wife? Who knows but it'll be interesting to find out what was actually in his system when all of this went down that night.
Very valid points. Especially about a friend or wife giving him Ambien "just to help him sleep" or whatever. Wildly dangerous.
I mean, alcohol might make some sense, but the type of rage he supposedly displayed makes me doubt that. I have to think there would have been some sort of history (fights, disorderly conduct, something like that) if alcohol made him that enraged, but as far as I know, there's nothing.

Maybe there was a side to him that most people didn't know but they interviewed a guy down here who had worked with him quite a bit off the field / sort of as a friend or business partner. He said he did quite a bit of charity work with him and saw him in many different parties where there was plenty of alcohol and plenty of people drunk and he never saw any violent behavior from him at all. He called him a very gentle man.
