Formula 1 Thread

Tell you what, Gene Haas needs to tell Grosjean to get his emotions in check. He gets bent out of shape over every discretion. Don't want to say it's what caused him to finish +2 laps, but it's what caused him to finish +2 laps today in Brazil.

I wouldn’t be shocked to see him out of the sport.

Great recovery from Lewis. Shouldn’t have been in that situation.

I agree. There is enough young talent from Formula 2, GP3, etc that could be used to fill Grojean's seat.

I'm not a Hamilton fan (see my avatar, haha) but he is one helluva driver, I'll give him that. Fantastic recovery.

Post more often.

If Gene had the stones he would give Newgarden a test.

Anyone have any opinions on the halo? I personally think it's ungodly ugly and possibly a big line-of-sight distraction. I'm all for safety, but man, is the halo really the answer?

I think in profile view it looks okay. Any other angle and it’s not very good.

I’m all for the safety aspect, but I think the FIA is using this as a method to get the teams to work out a better solution quicker. I know that these teams are intelligent enough to make a canopy work. These are engineers who were able to utilize mass dampers, f-ducts, FRIC, and exhaust blown diffusers.

I think the Halo, while ugly as sin. The sight line isn’t as bad from the cockpit cameras. It shouldn’t hurt the racing. I want them to bring back fueling during pit stops. And also get rid of the cost saving measures. This is F1 you want to save money, buy a stock car team

Shot at a Gene Haas? Lol!

My ideal F1 would have canopies, and better noises. A bit more common sense regulations to save money. Also a race at Road Atlanta.

I’m not unhappy with the current state of F1. That said my guy is racking up the stats!

I wouldn’t mind the fighter conopy. I don’t think RA is safe enough for Formula 1, with thier love of runoff areas.

And I would never take a shot at America’s only F1 team. That needed Tony Steward to have a competitive NASCAR outfit, and only dominated CART in its dying days.

Maybe I'm old-school but I'm against the halo.

Grosjean & Magnussen deals both end after next season..

I think both re-signed for next year at least.

Bahrain is the Middle Eastern GP-of-choice for me. The Yas Marina circuit looks neat on paper, but just does not translate well to actual racing. The facilities look amazing, though!

Same here. Bahrain had me sold after the Duel in the Desert. That still stands as the greatest Grand Prix I’ve ever watched.

Think about how rarely you have a scrap for the lead in F1. That one had em in bunches.

Ok, so let's start the 2018 talk. I've been stalking the football coach threads and need to get my mind right. I have a few questions just to get the conversation going:

1) Will Alonso, Vandoorne and McLaren as a whole benefit from the Renault engines?

Being an Alonso fan and a budding Vandoorne fan (since I believe Alonso will likely retire within three years), I am hopeful. However, I honestly only see the switch to Renault resulting in somewhat better reliability. Mind you, I'm comparing the reliability of Renault to that of Honda, which has apparently set a low bar. I think Alonso (and possibly even Vandoorne) will score a win or so, but that's about it.

2) Do you think Verstappen can legitimately compete for the title next year?

I personally think he'll be more polished next year, scoring several wins. Not sure if he'll finish the championship any better than third though.

3) Will Leclerc shine?

I believe he will surprise, but being behind the wheel of a Sauber, I don't see him getting anymore than maybe two finishes above 15th or so.

I must emphasize that these are only my opinions and I ask you not to attack me too much. I sometimes don't know what the h*ll I'm talking about, haha!

The Rennys will give the McLaren the extra bump they need, with better reliability. Don’t forget that a Renault(TAG?) won Malaysia going away with it. I have Alonso penciled in for 2 wins. F1 reddit has a collective orgasm.

2. On Verstappen, I think he goes as far as the car allows him. I don’t think Renault will push that car up more than they were last year. 3 wins are what I have him scheduled for. 1 for DR and he announces a move to Merc for 2019.

3. Who can say, I thought Pascal was supposed to be the new savior, now he’s on the outside looking in.

The question I have on my mind is how many wins does Lewis collect? The #drivefor92 needs 10 win seasons. He needs to get going to a hot start.

I'd say he'll definitely get at least 8 for sure. Can't say I want him to, but it's cool, haha. As long as there's competition, it doesn't really matter to me.

And for some reason, from the get-go, I was never really sold on Wehrlein being the next Schumacher. I have no reason why, I just wasn't.

Something I think we can all agree on though was that Palmer kinda sucked.

You think Kubica can handle today's F1?

Kubica had talent before the accident. I would like to see if he can still go with the best in a good car. Too bad he is at Renault and they have a good, not great engine. But their chassis is not really good right now and is on the level of Torro Rosso and Hass.

The 24hr of Daytona is about to start. Quite s few F1 Formula E, and former Grand Prix drivers in the field

Ok, folks. Formula One starts up again tomorrow with FP1, which I believe is airing on ESPN3. As for who you are following this year, who is your main driver and who is your underdog? If you've got a team you are following, what team'll it be? I'll go first:

Main driver: Stoffel Vandoorne

Underdog: Charles LeClerc

Team: McLaren-Renault

Even though Skysports is still running the actual broadcast seeing ESPN do the F1 races is going to really weird

Main driver: Max Verstappen

Underdog: Lance Stroll

Team: Mclaren-Renault: Will be curious to see if the Renault engines can help get McLaren back from the dead
