Formula 1 Thread

Thanks for the intro vids. I love the Japanese ones.

No problem!

Btw qualifying was partially rained out, so they will have a go at it before the race. I am not sure if NBCsports will show it(I doubt it) so folks may want to consult their friendly dubious Internet source to catch up on the action.

Race starts in less than 15 minutes.

CAN'T WAIT!

Race 1 in the books. I'll hold off on the commentary until others get a chance to watch. I will say that I enjoyed the race and if this race is any indicator of how the season is gonna be, it should be fun to watch.

I agree. It's gonna be a wild one!

Nice win for Kimi, and a pretty good result for Ferrari. It sounds like McLaren had a rough time of it though, especially now that there is talk of reverting back to using the MP4-27 instead of the 28.

my 2¢ after the first race: leigh diffey is awful; grosjean didn't take anyone out on the first lap so that might be a good sign; mclaren doesn't look good, they might not make top 4 in constructors; mercedes might not be all that good either; hopefully red bull is more mortal this year; ferrari came out a lot better than last year; i hope force india becomes the best of the rest; i think it's going to be a good year of racing

It's satisfying to see McLaren struggle. They will get back in form eventually, but perhaps not early enough to make a run for the championship. The Merc seems decent I need to do a bit more digging to analyze how the car looked over the course of long run. Lewis must have a nice smug feeling though, comparing his current spot to the McLarens.

i've never had much belief in jenson button being an elite driver. when he drove for honda he was never able to over achieve, the one year at brawn was all about the car, and with mclaren equipment personally i always thought he under achieved, especially in comparison to lewis. perez on the other hand i just don't think he's all that good, maybe just hasn't proven it to me yet. i'm sure the car is a turd in comparison to other years but the drivers aren't helping out the cause any. with the POS car ferrari started with last year alonso was able to get more out of the car than was really there, mclaren needs a driver with that kind of skill set and doesn't have one

I think Perez is good enough to be top 5 this year. Button on the other hand sucks and McLaren is sucking for it

You are spot on. I like Perez and he may be good, but I wonder if he may have been a product of sauber's ability to take care of tires and plan the race like that.

I think there are three maybe four drivers who can really put the car in places it shouldn't be capable of:

Lewis
Alonso
Kimi (maybe, he has never really taken a dog car to great heights. Often he has fast, but fragile cars)
Vettel (another maybe, since he has been there the red bull has been a great car, also that toro rosso in 08 was a damn good car as well)

He honestly is. Way too much time shouting at me.

Also, word coming from Merc is that the cold conditions at Melbourne meant that the Medium tires didn't work properly for them. There is also speculation that the Merc takes a bit longer to get heat into the tires than the other cars.

That is a nice change from last year, where the Merc put too much heat into the rears and burned them up.
