If anyone wants a new forum category here on VolNation to moderate and try and grow please let me know. I am especially interested in fans of other teams/conferences or maybe a pro sports forum. I am open to any other suggestions that might attract more visitors and that would add to our community.

Perhaps another forum to discuss non-Vol sports? I'm never sure whether they should be put in the pub or the volboard. I'll take on mod duties as long as I can get somebody to help me out.

Besides the obvious duty of being the person who fields & weeds the complaints about content and sends the potential banning candidates up the line, what exactly are the moderator duties?

I'm not sure I'm ready or even qualified yet myself, but it might help if you spelled things out- A clear list would discourage the unqualified ones who wanted the name but would shy away from a formal list of responsibilities, and encourage the qualified ones who were shy about whether they were up to the name only because they didn't have a list to say, "yeah, I am up to that" over.

Well the duties would be two fold. First, the forum leader or mod would need to be responsible for keeping that forum active. Starting threads, replying to others posts, etc to make sure there is activity there. Also you would want to try and help spread the word to get new members (if possible) and making it so others are inclined to post there. Secondly, you would have the power to edit others posts in that forum should people get out of line. You would also have a major say so in banning members. We usually discuss that with the other mods before making any final decisions.

I think that sums it up. Does that make sense? Did I miss anything?

Here are some of my suggestions for new forums:

Other college teams/conferences
or
Recruiting (for anyone who follows it very closely)
or
Professional Sports (or Titans maybe)
or
Computer Related
or
Recipes (for the women.....and men who cook)
or
Gambling (lines, odds and things like that)
or
Video Games (pretty popular these days)
or
Joke Forum (for daily jokes and funny stuff)
or
News (keeping us updated on what's happening in the world--non-political)

etc, etc, etc.

For anyone who is considering volunteering it should be something that you are already interested in and follow on a daily basis.

That's exactly what I was thinking of, explanation-wise. 99% Perfect.

The biggest responsibility is clearly, "Power to edit other's posts," though, the Mods (and Rockers) here are more hands-off than most of the bbs's I've visited.

So, even if it's full of judgement-call statements, add the "VolNation Semi-Official Policy on When to Edit Posts and When to Just Let the Other Members Abuse the Poster".

I try to only edit posts once the name calling / personal attacks start. I have only had to do that a couple of times.

I really need to work on getting the rules of the forum posted. LIO helped me (or did it all herself) work on that but I never posted it.

I think it would be kind of redundant... This forum is extremley good about not getting a bunch of loud-mouthed dolts. Just deal with them on a case-to-case basis, but if we do get flooded, then institute the rules.

Just my thoughts, though.

Freak it can't be expected to have this place watched all the time, unless there is an 24 hour moderater in here.I think it's up to individuals to be mature, plain and simple.

I have an idea. I'll do a Dear LIO / Lonely Hearts thread. I give excellent advice.

As soon as you say something vague about the rules like that though, Murphy will guarantee you a world-class dolt that flumoxes you.

I wasn't asking for hard and fast rules (ME?!?!?)

But a final line of rules to fall back on in case of unusual cases is probably a good idea since, in the South, talking about college football is pretty much like talking about both politics & religion... at the same time... in a bar....

Sorry folks I really like this forum.
There are plenty of others out there to discuss this and that.
The volnation is that for the vols this is the one place that is easy to navigate with the intellectual quality to support many thought prevoking replies that are necessary to keep going.
The only thing that i think this needs is more members who's blood runs deep deep orange.

I don't want to see pics of nekkid or half-nekkid people.

Just signature-line pics of extremely healthy and attractive young guys "pumping their fists", right, LIO?

Of course, now that I think on it- did anybody else besides you even suggest a forum with half-nekkid or nekkid pictures?....

How about a forum talking about NASCAR and/or Dirt track racing? That's two of my other hobbies besides Tennessee Football.
