Have had some really good comments and thoughts in the first three.

I think the Okie game went about what most expected to see. To me the defense actually out played them in the second half. Offense never quit, turnovers did not seem to distract them from their game. Very proud of this team so far. Ok on with Georgia.

Special teams - Waiting to see the "special". Need a great return or a take away. Keep the ball away from Gruly on kickoffs period! Help the "D".

Offense - Protect Worley, even with Von and Josh out, given time he could still be effective. Tight ends, tight ends. Get the backs to the second level to maybe break a couple of long runs. Limit 3 and outs.

Defense - Georgia's backs are really good. They will pick up yardage, but "DO NOT" let them bust one for 30 or more. Pressure the QB, this is where they can get some turn overs.

Team - Keep up the intensity. "Snap and clear" has been good. So far in the games I have watched in the SEC the Vols are in better condition than any one and will pay off in 3rd and 4th qtrs.

Nothing great here just simple football stuff.

My Vols 33/Dogs 27:yes:

Please add your thoughts.

Agree

Having a kicker that can kick it in the end zone would help....
I also want to see us come out on our first offensive drive and not look scared to death and go three and out with sphincter-tight predictable play calling..... Remember the days where you could almost count on Fulmer throwing a bomb down the side lines on the first offensive play of the game? More than half the time we came up with it because no one expected it, and even if we dropped it, the other team's D was scared and backed off into soft zone coverage allowing us to run and throw shorter passes to move the chains.... we have two deep ball threats..... we need to use them.

For me, tackling is the key to containing Georgia's stable of backs. Can't afford any missed tackles when trying to bring down Gurley and company. Can't allow any YAC, that's what has been impressive about Georgia so far

I'd like to see Malone return kicks from here on. He did it in high school and was deadly.

Defense wise, bring the pressure. For us to win we will have to force turnovers by blitzing Mason. The only way we can blitz Mason is to first stop the run. So, I agree, we just need to try to contain their beast load of backs and prevent big gains, unlike Clemson did against UGA in second half.

Offense wise, get Wolf and Hurd the ball, A LOT. Our offense is built for a flex TE. Look how well Travis Kelce did at Cincy in this offense. We have to get Wolf and Hurd the ball and sustain some drives. Also, start praying for Worley's health because UGA is going to bring it all out on us Saturday.

Impact players that may give us a boost:

Scott at RB. He's going to be a good one.

Sauls back a DT!!! Hes a beast. He'll provide some much needed depth even if he's only 80% healthy.

JRM. I know he's already a stud, but he'll have to contain weak side against a very good RB core. We will need him to hold the edge and lock the weak side down.

Barnett will have to help out on containing the run. He's going to have his biggest challenge so far. He must contain edge on strong side when he's in at SDE. Our SDE will be a key position to watch all game no matter who's playing in the position.

Croom. If we ever needed this big fella to step up itd be now. UGA secondary is sub-par. Look for Croom to get some looks very early.

I agree with your "snap and clear" thought. It's nice to see our defense hold a team like Oklahoma to a few field goals after giving up a big play or two. Seems like our guys have a knack for stifling long drives.

I agree. Seems like we run the ball for the first 3 plays on offense every game. Opponents know this.... throw it deep and catch them off guard. Up 7 after the first possession is a good place to start.

If the right side of our offensive line had been even decent we were good enough to hang with Oklahoma, should they show marked improvement I believe that will be true vs any team on our schedule.

Agree with you here. Do you think that you may do some "pooch" kicking and pop it up around the 30 to keep from Gurley and giving you time to get players down the field?

Offense - Protect Worley, even with Von and Josh out, given time he could still be effective. Tight ends, tight ends. Get the backs to the second level to maybe break a couple of long runs. Limit 3 and outs.

Probably the biggest advantage for the Vols if you can do this. Did you see how well uSC did this and give the QB to attack our biggest weakness? Our D backs (due mostly to talent not effort) have a hard time with passes across the middle and in the transition from the LB to DB coverage. They are having to play with too much cushion to keep the receivers from getting behind them and don't have the athleticism to break off to cover the shorter receiver after they get past the LBs.

Defense - Georgia's backs are really good. They will pick up yardage, but "DO NOT" let them bust one for 30 or more. Pressure the QB, this is where they can get some turn overs.

Turnovers are always a key. Just keep in mind that Georgia has only turned the ball over one time so far this year. Mason is Mason ... meaning he is not going to sling it for 350 + yards, but throwing at 70% with no interceptions. He does a good job of controlling the ball.

Team - Keep up the intensity. "Snap and clear" has been good. So far in the games I have watched in the SEC the Vols are in better condition than any one and will pay off in 3rd and 4th qtrs.

You are correct ... doesn't matter who wins the first half ... Georgia has been much stronger on offense later in the game ... for the most part. Fresh legs are the main reason. If this game is anything like our previous matches it will go late and be a (pardon the pun) dog fight to the end. I'm just glad to be in Athens.

Good points. Hope you have a great Sunday ... (Meaning I hope you Saturday stinks.)

Not usually one to pick personnel over what the coaches see in practice every day. But, if I see Devrin Young run into traffic and dive on the ground one more time, I'm going to sling my visor OBC style. Great kid, but in games he just appears to expect to be tackled and obliges. Malone has got some jets. Would like to see him back there if coaches are confident with his ball security.

That being said, expect to see DY take two to the house and break 5 tackles along the way. :whistling:

No more blowouts. That's what I'm ready to see. Last night Butch says "this team is close". It's time to start seeing that on the scoreboard. I'm not expecting a win, but we should be competitive at this point.

I agree with the need for a better return game, but the Vols are +3 on Special Team turn overs after 3 games.

500 As an outsider looking in I agree with you on the improvement of this team. You guys started a near record number of freshman to enter the season ... as CMR said in his presser this week. (Paraphrasing) This will be game #4 for those guys and they are no longer rookies.

Exploit our "lack of" coverage between the LBs and DBs and you will put points on the board ... Just ask uSC ...

No kick returner does anything without blocking. If DY gets some space for maneuvering he will be much better. Not saying he is better than Malone or Evan Berry, but the blocking has to improve.

waiting to see same intensity and physicality as the OU game.

Don't think UGA's D is as good as OU but the O is better and our D has to be on its A game once again.

Oline improvement and better production on offense

A win for the men to start SEC play the right way

I would be happy with every kickoff going out of the endzone for a touchback and every punt directionally out of bounds.

I've seen too many ST breakdowns over the past few years in games like this. Just eliminate those threats.

Yep, agree with all of this.

1. Worley with a clean jersey
2. Gurley limping off the field mid-way through the 2nd quarter. Don't want him injured, just too sore to continue.
3. A surprise play that shows Jake isn't afraid to take off the fetters.
4. An interception or two.

If (the biggest word in the English language) we use him as we have so far in the first half he will not get enough activity in the first half for this to happen.

Turnovers are ALWAYS key to any game. Almost cost 'Bama this past weekend in a game that should have been settled in the first half.

Already down two receivers and you want to put him on kick returns? That would worry me.

I like our chances this week better than Alabama and Ole Miss. We really need to come out fast and either get an early lead or keep the game within 10 at the half. If we are down by 2TD's at the half, we will be blown away in the 2nd half.

Justin is the key! I have taken more flack for being a Justin fan since he first went under center. This kid is a baller and has the heart of a champion. I have talked with him numerous times and have always been impressed with his demeanor. I totally have faith that Justin will play lights out against UGA. OL is my main concern along with ST's
