Justin is the key! I have taken more flack for being a Justin fan since he first went under center. This kid is a baller and has the heart of a champion. I have talked with him numerous times and have always been impressed with his demeanor. I totally have faith that Justin will play lights out against UGA. OL is my main concern along with ST's

I really like him. He has been different this year, and shows he's more confident. I think his message after that OU game will cause our line to do their best.

  1. Did the O-line really turn the corner in the 2nd half against Oklahoma? As I badly as I want this to be true, I can't rule out the possibility that the O-line could've just as well played a good 1st half and terrible 2nd half due to the inconsistent play typical of an inexperienced unit. I'm leaning towards the idea that the lightbulb came on for them, but I need more info.
  2. Is our touted receiving corps depth as good as advertised? If so, we should still have an advantage over Georgia's secondary with Pearson and Smith out (and it should be noticeable).
  3. Can Worley limit mistakes? He hasn't made many, but it seems like every one of them has had the worst possible consequences. We need him to be mistake free.
  4. How well can our defense tackle elite RB's? Georgia's RB's get a lot of yards after contact, and we haven't played against players of their caliber yet. This can't be one of those games where a missed tackle in the backfield turns into a big gain regularly if we want to stay in it.

My thoughts...

1 - Kick offs - kick the ball out the back of the end zone or if not - "high kick" it to mid-20s.

2 - Punting - kick away from PR - especially if it is Gurley

3 - Protect Worley's left side

4 - Don't be so predictable in play calling and for Pete's sake abandon the "jet sweep" - it fools no one

5 - Throw a lot of screens and TEs over the middle and into the flat

6 - Take what they give you; forget the 40+ pass down the field. Lets get our WRs in space against their DBs

Have had some really good comments and thoughts in the first three.

I think the Okie game went about what most expected to see. To me the defense actually out played them in the second half. Offense never quit, turnovers did not seem to distract them from their game. Very proud of this team so far. Ok on with Georgia.

Special teams - Waiting to see the "special". Need a great return or a take away. Keep the ball away from Gruly on kickoffs period! Help the "D".

Offense - Protect Worley, even with Von and Josh out, given time he could still be effective. Tight ends, tight ends. Get the backs to the second level to maybe break a couple of long runs. Limit 3 and outs.

Defense - Georgia's backs are really good. They will pick up yardage, but "DO NOT" let them bust one for 30 or more. Pressure the QB, this is where they can get some turn overs.

Team - Keep up the intensity. "Snap and clear" has been good. So far in the games I have watched in the SEC the Vols are in better condition than any one and will pay off in 3rd and 4th qtrs.

Nothing great here just simple football stuff.

My Vols 33/Dogs 27:yes:

Please add your thoughts.

GBO!!!!

Really only 3 things to watch:

1) UT OL performance, can it run block/pass block effectively?

2) Worley, can he produce an A game?

3) Front 7, can it slow the UGA rush?

The way he has talked and praised them the last 2 weeks the O line will run through a brick wall for him!!!!

No 3 and outs are critical, gain 4 yards at a time, keep up the fast pace offense and keep Gurley-mon on the sideline. On D...11 hats to the ball and keep a safety deep. Avoid turnovers and stupid penalties. Keys to the game via Volsfanstucknga.

I agree. Seems like we run the ball for the first 3 plays on offense every game. Opponents know this.... throw it deep and catch them off guard. Up 7 after the first possession is a good place to start.
I agree. If I'm in Butch's shoes, I want to USE our strength early and often...that is our size and talent at WR. Take shots deep with North, Malone and Croom + Wolf down the seams. Not only is it a higher percentage play with our size, but it often will draw a flag on smaller DB's trying to make up for the size disadvantage.

I think they tried to do that a few times in the OK game, but Croom let one slip right between his hands, and into the defender's. He's got to redeem himself after that.

One thing I always noticed with great basketball center's and power forwards is, when they would go strong to the basket, they would often leap not only straight up, but INTO the defender, and it takes them out of the play. We need some of that from Croom.

When he goes up for a jump ball deep or into the endzone...cheat a little by using the same technique. Defenders will try to muscle a WR out of bounds during his route, so turn-about is fair play. Croom should lean on his defender rather than let them "box him out" so to speak.

Four more things I'm waiting to see this year:

Win.
Win.
Win.
Win.

That leads to a wonderful fifth thing I want to see.

Bowl Game.

Only one thing I'm hoping to see. These two making out.

The one on the left has an adam's apple the size of the head of the one on the right.

When I first saw pic, I thought of this

1) Can this D slow Gurley down?

2) Can the special teams keep Gurley in check?

3) Can Gurley be held under 100 yards?

4) Can Gurley be taken out of the game plan by getting a lead on UGA?

There are few games and teams anymore that rely so much on one player but this is one of them.

Vols also can't turn the ball over, especially in the red zone.
