Fox news "fair and balanced" yeah RIGHT

Fox is a schill for the neo-cons in the Republican party. They really don't pretend to be otherwise. I think their slogan of "Fair and Balanced" is really a slight at the perception that the rest of the large-scale media is left-leaning, which is largely true, IMO.

It has to do with the view of the media as the Fourth Estate -- the exposure of government fraud, abuse, and waste. Watergate of course being the largest example. After Watergate, journalism was taught in colleges -- already largely liberal -- as a career to "make a difference." I think the current crop of reporters you see on most major networks come out of that mindset, and that is threatening to the establishment, even if not articulated that way.

Fox is a reaction to that.

Why would we take your theory seriously when you start with the statement that Fox is a shill for neo-cons and don't pretend otherwise.

Of course FNC is nothing but right wing propaganda just look at the number of hosts from fox that have signed up to be teabagging teabaggers.:)
And who did Glenn Beck work for before FNC I believe he had his own show on HLN which is owned by cnn you cons can give me shout when fnc gives a liberal his own show so I guess I'll hear from you all around never.:eek:k:

it won't happen because liberals suck. If you want proof of that, look at Olbermann/Maddow/Matthews/Schultz's ratings compared to the same time slots at FNC.

Anyone with any common sense knows this network leans to the right, why do they claim to be fair and balanced...your thoughts?

Because the others lean so far to the left they stand for nothing.

Actually Fox leans to the left also. :)

Yes, O'Reilly and even Hannity outdraw Maddow and Olbermann. There are streaks however, when Maddow and Olbermann kicks the FNC primetime show's a**.

I'd also venture to say that FNC advertises themselves more than MSNBC. Also, while there aren't very many of these, some cable companies won't carry MSNBC on the basic package, but do carry FNC.

How do they advertise more? Each channel is on 24 hours a day/365 a year. Is FNC running commercials on ABC?

I live in the same town as you and don't recall seeing a FNC commercial on another network. Maybe I don't watch enough TV.

Drudge posts the numbers every week and I have never seen MSNBC above a single Fox show, let alone all of them. Next time they do please point it out.

I could have sworn I heard that Olbermann beat Bill O'Reilly's show in the ratings for a week or two straight, around a year ago I believe.

I think its a mistake to assume that because ratings are higher for one than the other that it compels the conclusion that the leading network is espousing the correct point of view. Like girls in high school, being the most popular may mean that Fox is just doing whatever it takes to be the cool kid.

That hasn't happened

True to an extent . . . but I would say that the numbers definitely mean something. People watching cable news channels aren't exactly the same people driving up the ratings for Jerry Springer.

I think the numbers mean people tune in to hear what they want to be told. It doesn't necessarily mean the POV is correct.

We also can't count out the people that tune in for the entertainment factor, and want to find something to complain and argue about. It doesn't necessarily mean that everybody that watches agrees with what is being said.

All of that goes not just for FNC channel, but any left or right leaning news organizations.

Again, I agree. My point is that while ratings don't necessarily correlate to what is "right", on some level they do mean something.
