Frank Martin to USCjr...

For those asking why would he leave? How many do you want? He's at the "other" school in nowhere Kansas. He can build "the" school in SC since Clemson hasn't claimed it either. He's from the Miami area and he can head back much closer to home. He will be a couple hours from the mountains, a couple hours to the beaches, and a couple hours to the wonderful Charleston area. He can recruit Georgia, Florida and the Carolina's easily. Winning seasons insure he keeps a well paid head coaching job, and he knows how to do that as he has proved at KSU. That's enough for now.

IMO, if the Knicks cant get Phil Jackson they should keep Woodson. Dude did a hell of a job in ATL and is doin pretty good right now as the interim. He'll have them playin great D which is what that team needs. Cal just isnt an NBA coach imo.

I agree that Cal is not a NBA coach. But they will want a big name for New York. Cal is about the money. He will go if they offer enough.

Call me crazy but I thought Darrin Horn would turn something around at USC. Anyone got info on contract issues between KSU and USC? I don't see Martin as an instant threat whatsoever.

wow! Frank Martin is a class A coach IMO. USCJr hit a homerun and that's probably the best hire they'll ever get.

It's also interesting to see Tubby Smith attached to this. What's even more fantastic is he has no buy out at Minny

Considering Frank Martin will be on CBS today, therefore nullifying the Saturday USC press conference report, this isn't happening/hasn't happened yet. Also, the guy who posted the original Martin to SC report on Twitter deleted his Tweets about it, because that obviously helps when everyone already knows what you posted.

Not lateral at all. It's a step back

On the surface, it may look like a step back, and to start with, it may be. However, USCe has a better regional recruiting base, they don't play second-fiddle in-state to a top 10 all-time program, and they play in a big name conference with very little consistent, elite competition.

That said, he would be starting at ground zero at USCe, while he has established something at KSU. So, again, lateral move at best, but only because of what he's leaving vs what he's walking into.

Over the past 3-4 years, USCe has been playing second fiddle to Clemson and I realize Clemson is not a top 10 all time program. I do not believe he will be coaching in South Carolina.

Well, obviously. That's why Darrin Horn was fired. My point is, he would have a much easier time overtaking Clemson at USCe than overtaking Kansas at KSU.

I agree though, its looking less likely that he'll be there.

Gotta admit this is a head-scratcher. The perecption would be that KSU is at worst a lateral to usc.And now he's going to come into a division that has Kentucky, UT, Vandy, Florida and Mizzou?

Good luck with that.

Martin has already shown that he owns Frank Haith, plus Mizzou should be rebuilding next season, so I doubt he fears Missouri at all.

Martin is an underrated coach, and probably comes in as the fourth best coach in the conference. If he can recruit to USC like he did at KSU, he could make waves.

However, I just don't see anyone making anything out of the USC job.

Funny when a job comes open at some SEC schools then opening the pocketbook to get the coach they want actually does work.

Dude was a crooked aau coach years ago and got some ridiculous talent to go to manhattan, ks, which is in the middle of nowhere.

that's about all I will say.

What did he do that was crooked?

He was a slimeball at the summer tourneys and was always trying to push players in whichever direction to get opportunities in return.

He was never found guilty of hs recruiting violations, iirc, but it was known that kids were getting set up with cash and housing to play at his hs because they told everyone. And that's hs ball.
No telling what shady crap he pulled to get guys like Beasley to ksu.

People will say he has no record, but that means nothing. There are so many ways to stay clear of the ncaa, its a joke.
