Yesterday he had an announcement about the announcement for the announcement on the announcement. It seems September 6th is the day. He timed it one day after the NH debate as well.

I'm not sure what he thinks he can do. He's not doing well in fundraising and he's behind on everything in the first states. Giuliani and Romney are in front on the first states and Giuliani has the larger states locked up as well. By February 5th, Giuliani comes out the lead in delegates.

We will see. Remember how Howard Dean had the Dem nomination all but locked up only to see John Kerry come steal it away?? There's a lot of people who I know vote Dem that would vote for Thompson and have stated they would.

Greater reason not to support him. And many primaries are closed so those will have to sit out and hope he makes it through.

Here is some more strategery from an Atlanta blog taken from another blog...

From the date of the formal announcement, Thompson has 15 days to declare his candidacy officially with the Federal Election Commision. Takes us to September 21, 2007.
From that date, Thompson has 10 more days for his official campaign committee to register with the FEC. Takes us to October 1, 2007.
And what’s so special about October 1? It’s the start of a new FEC reporting quarter.
By delaying the filing of his organizational papers until books have closed on the third quarter of 2007, Thompson arguably will not have to file any disclosure reports with the FEC until January 31, 2008, after the Republican primaries/caucuses in WY, IA, NH, NV, FL …..

What a snake... he's got no chance anyways. A terrible politician when he was a politician and a terrible actor... but I love Law and Order.

Fred is the man, He is the only republican that stands a chance against the Dems, and imagine a republican the is well spoken, comes off as real and can relate with the people. It has been atleast 8 years since we have seen a good leader with the ability to speak and relate his message so that anybody understands it.

You know this same post has been seen on this board word for word on more than one occasion. Strangely enough I've seen this line on other boards as well. The Fred trolls are out maybe?

I'd like to know how you figure he's the only Republican that stands a chance against the Dems. Everything I've seen is counter to that. McCain and Giuliani are by far polling better and even raising more money.

I've watched this guy closely in the past few weeks. He cannot fundraise. He toured the IA state fair in a golf cart while everyone else walked around shaking hands and making direct contact. His speeches are anything but inspiring. While trying to portray the hopeful 'city on a hill' Reagan, his last big speech was more negative than anything I've seen from any candidate. He lacks energy and a fire in his belly. He has more ties to everything the GOP is against - lobbyist, Hollywood actor, and trial lawyer. He's flipped careers at every sign of trouble or being 'fed up'. He cannot commit to anything. His staff is a revolving door. Every week two high level staffers quit. But yet I am told that he's our only hope. He has worse issues than what McCain is labeled dead for but yet he's somehow given messiah status. I just don't get it.

Add to the fact that he is WAY behind and the states keep upping their primaries. He has three months to catch up in states that are more or less wrapped up. Giuliani has the biggest states and Romney is out front in other initial states. Where will Fred surge?

If this is what the GOP is throwing out there I may as well skip my first election since getting my card in 93.

I am right there with you except I got mine in '90. Hell, I may go off the deep end and actively support Ron Paul.

He said average Americans don't watch debates. Do average Americans stay up late to watch him on Leno and then watch 15 minute announcement videos at midnight?I think he's snubbed NH and quite a few within the base. He's ducking a debate and chance to answer serious questions. He's hiding and crafting a closed agenda that backfired for Bush. W hid behind few press conferences and was very tight on open questioning. He might as well put an Access Denied sign on his campaign bus.
