do you honestly believe that? Are you really that short sighted that you don't believe that it is possible to flourish anywhere else but America?? haha. Your ignorance is truly astounding.

it's a lot easier to flourish in america. the simple fact that every major advance in teh past 50 years has come from a country that has 4% of the worlds population should tell you all you need to know. what is the last great company or idea or advance that has come out of europe? list them.

erm, where does the unemployed part come into it? Clearly someone unemployed has all the time off they want, but they are unlikely to be happy. The key is to strike a balance between work and life, and that is something that we (and I include the UK in this to an extent) could learn a lot from continental Europe about.

Clearly having a rational debate is far beyond you so I think we can leave it there.

the unemployment rate has been significantly higher than the US in europe for the past 30 years.

my god, you really are a child arent you? I'm serious, how old are you? Do your parents know you are on the internet?

You make a statement as vague and ludicrous as 'every major advance in the past 50 years has come from the US' and then expect me to take you seriously and actually engage in debate??

Do you really want to compare our economy before Hussein to Europe's? You can't be serious. He wants our economy to mirror Europe's

my case does not support that, but then I know that my case is fairly unusual. I've looked at other jobs here, and I've seen companies that claim that they offer a 'generous' vacation allowance of 10 days!

Oh the horrors!

I'm making the point, that 'standard of living' is not the same as 'quality of life'. To me, 2 weeks every year is not a good quality of life, but unfortunately that is the case for many many people.

Here you are back to number of vacation days equals quality of life.

I doubt those poor souls with only 2 weeks of vacation time see their lives as somehow lacking and wishing they could live somewhere with more vacation days.

sure, the Krauts make good stuff, but what innovations have they come up with that weren't first perfected in the United States?

you simply can't be productive with 15 weeks of paid vacation per year.

So working and being productive equals a lower standard of living? The thoughts of some on here never cease to amaze me.

To be fair, without their help post WWII, our jet engine and rocket technology (and by extension our Air Force and Space Program) wouldn't be what it is today. That is to say nothing of their scientists (Einstien, etc).

Although, that was all 60 years ago.

I hope they are enjoying our Iphones, using Windows for their computers, Google to surf the net, drinking our Soda, and smoking our Cigs
