Holly Warlick used to hang out at Alki Lane ballpark in Rocky Hill and routinely competed with the boys. She was also great at softball and track. True athlete!
So a tie-up = automatic turnover? Im not a fan of the arrow, but don't think that's a good solution. I'd rather see them jump it up. If it's a point guard and a center, well, thems the breaks.I have long hated the possession arrow. I can understand eliminating all those tips, especially the unbalanced ones, but the possession arrow needs to be modified. Great defense should be rewarded with something better than flipping the arrow -- the ball should simply go to whoever was on defense in the tie-up.
I was at a Grizzlies/Suns game recently where it was a tie game with a couple of seconds left, and the ball got tied up. It was fascinating watching how the teams lined up at the jump ball. The Suns ended up getting it out top but immediately calling a timeout. Durant missed a shot out of the timeout, and the Grizzlies won in OT.I don't remember ever seeing the pros use the arrow. They have jump balls now.
It also cost us against Sampson.Don Devoe ran a modified version of the 4 corners. He’s have a point guard out top with 2 players stacked at each elbow. He’d go into it with around 5 minutes left if he had a 5 or 6 point lead. It was effective. Those philosophies ushered in the shot clock (45 seconds initially in the SEC).
I'm my state (SC) a few years ago during a boys playoff game, the coach with the lead ran that. The opposing coach was hit with two techs and ejected. A shot clock has now been instated, lol.I am old enough to remember a Dean Smith led UNC winning the ACC tournament running the “four corners” offense. Some people found it boring; I kinda enjoyed watching it play out to see if the strategy worked.
Still no shot clock in Kentucky HS basketball, and it is infuriating. There's literally no reason for not having it in 2025.I'm my state (SC) a few years ago during a boys playoff game, the coach with the lead ran that. The opposing coach was hit with two techs and ejected. A shot clock has now been instated, lol.
Digger Phelps invented that, and used it when he was afraid of another team's offense. I think that was a major reason behind adding the shot clock, and adding the requirement for a defender to challenge the ball handler when the team with the ball had the lead.I am old enough to remember a Dean Smith led UNC winning the ACC tournament running the “four corners” offense. Some people found it boring; I kinda enjoyed watching it play out to see if the strategy worked.
Yep, there were a lot of low scoring games in the ACC back during that time. Thank goodness it didn't last very long.I am old enough to remember a Dean Smith led UNC winning the ACC tournament running the “four corners” offense. Except the possession arrow should have favored TN. The refs egregious miss of a tripping foul on Ziegler and then calling a jump ball is what gave Bama the Possession Arrow to begin with. That’s almost how it played out Saturday versus Bama. TN’s defense tied it up at the end but didn’t have the possession arrow. Had TN not caused the 5-seconds violation on the ensuing inbounds play TN would have possibly lost.
