Ice to see you

Worst of the Batman movies, but Arnold and his puns almost saved it. Almost.

Really? Why?

He's a shady guy. Orgeron's bag man in Memphis.

He was Oher's coach at Briarcrest, quadrupled his GPA by taking BYU internet courses (which the NCAA has since banned).

No coincidence that Ole Miss hired Freeze a couple of weeks after Oher signed his LOI.

A lot of folks think Freeze is shady. He's ethically flexible at times, but I don't believe he's any shadier than any HFC in the SEC. He understands the system and exploits its weaknesses. You don't bring in the best recruits without being extremely savvy.

I think he'll reach bowls regularly. Not ready to say he's going to regularly contend for the SEC West, but only because of the strength and traditions at Alabama and LSU. I do expect Ole Miss to overtake Arkansas as the 3rd team in the West in a couple of years.

Bottom line is that the guy can flat-out coach. He's an elite recruiter and is an outstanding play caller. Being a great recruiter and play caller is a formula for success. He just needs to improve the defense, but he'll definitely put up some points.

Agreed. When you are in the SEC with Petrino, Saban, Chizik, Franklin, etc. Freeze is nowhere close to shady.

At first, I think a lot of fans were disappointed about the lack of "splash" hire, but ultimately it is a good pick. He can recruit MS & Memphis very well and is a good coach. His lack of coaching experience is probably the most concerning part. Everyone thinks it is one of those hires that will either be a great pick in a couple of years, or a horrible hire. Time will tell.

Freeze will do a good job at Ole Miss. He's a solid recruter and a very good playcaller. After the Vols, I like Arkansas State so it is dissapointing to see him leave after just one year. Hopefully they can continue to have success.

Ole Miss, of the 2-10 and bare cupboard variety, just made a better hire than Tennessee.

Good recruiter? Yes. Elite? No. He is going to have to pull big talent that do not go to Briarcrest before he is considered elite.

He is bringing the former Whitehaven Coach, who was at ASU with him along to Ole Miss. That is going to pay dividends in Memphis.

Of course this is my opinion and you're certainly entitled to yours, but I think he's elite and just hasn't had the chance to fully show it. And I agree with you, recruiting Memphis just got a LOT tougher for everyone, including UT.

I'll be interested to see who he pulls out of Memphis this cycle. Maybe Kimbrow.

Just my .02.

Some will argue that coaching and shady are synonymous...it is to what degree that separates one from another.

Given their (Ole Miss) circumstances, SEC expansion, Freezes Memphis connection, ability to recruit, and offensive (schematic) acumen this was a good hire. IMO.

I would be surprised to see him flip Kimbrow. He should be able to keep Walton. We will see if he can keep Mathers as well.

If I am looking at kids he can turn, and this is assuming that he wants these players, then I am keeping an eye on Redmond, Alex Dale, and the like.

It will be interesting to see how much success he has at private school not named Briarcrest. I could see a little resistance from some of those places. JMO.

I can't help but, think that if he could have waited it out and take the USM (which I think he would have gotten), it would give him a greater opportunity to succeed and be a better stepping stone for an elite job in the future.

Well, a couple things.

1. Ole Miss pays a hell of a lot more than the USM job.

2. Although he played for USM, he would rather be at Ole Miss, it is basically his dream job (of course they all say that right?) so for him it isn't a stepping stone.

1. It pays well, but does it in the long run? He can make a couple of grand for 3 years, fail and be relegated to a coordinator or lesser HC position at a smaller school and a huge cut in pay.

2. I know Hugh personally and, yes Ole Miss is his dream job without a doubt. I have alot of faith in his ability but, when you have to play the schedule that they have to play yearly it is a tough proposition. In most cases Ole Miss is the ceiling for any coach that goes there.
