Freshman Julian Phillips is a “Dream”

Sounds like the anti-BHH!

I hope. What the heck happened to him. I was VERY excited to see him develop this year. I noticed that all FF teams had a big like him to get there. Was disappointed that he left. But, if he thinks he is Shaq #2 and should have been a O&D, then don't let the door hit ya where the Good Lord split ya. Pumped @ Aidoo too. Would have loved to see them both tho.

I’m pretty sure Shaq was the last thing he thought he was. Dude thought he was 6’10” Kyrie.

He’s at Louisville.

Can we not turn a Julian Phillips thread into one about BHH? Please. Let’s move on from him.

Can’t wait to see Phillips this Fall. I’m excited to see how quickly he progresses.

Sorry to dilute the purity here. But, never heard the lowdown on why BHH left yet another team.

It’s got nothing to do with keeping things pure. It’s just we can’t seem to move past BHH. His name pops up everywhere.

To answer your question though, he left here because his vision for his game was a lot different than what Barnes had in mind. He wants to be more of a big guard than a traditional power forward. He also apparently didn’t want to put the work in according to rumors and was demanding minutes. Take it as you will. That’s just the rumor.

As for BHH, I wish him nothing but the best, but he's not cut out for modern day basketball. He reminds me of the type of big man you would see playing in the 70's. Very slow, just tall and big enough to be used as a body.

I'm excited for Julian Philips. He reminds me of a smaller KD!

To add to this, he was being pushed to leave by those around him, primarily his mother, IIRC. BHH, by some accounts, didn't want to leave if the decision were left up to him, entirely. @Stoerner Fumbles can confirm/deny that, but that seems to be what I remember.

Accurate. He wasn’t a perfect citizen, but without meddling I think he would’ve stayed. He started to do well in practice playing in the system, and developed some strong bonds on the team. So many of these kids get bad advice from grabby people in their circle. Sometimes an eighteen year-old needs boundaries and structure to grow up. Ironic when it’s the parents who steal that opportunity.

Just to redirect the spotlight to Phillips— He’s going to contribute a great deal early if reports are accurate. I’ve never heard CRB speak this highly about a freshman. The kid is putting in the work, and he’s a real deal NBA talent. He’s been running the break and our scoring productivity is soaring. He’s stellar whether he passes, shoots, or drives. I can’t wait to see him play live on this team.

Did you hear what CRB said about KC a year ago?

He was pretty glowing in his preseason comments of KC also

I meant no knock on KC. Finding a place as a grownup pg that fast is astounding. It took sone flexibility in Barnes and his system, but it took KC taking coaching and putting in the time. Phillips is something different. No one wants to make a Kevin Durant hyperbolic comparison, but he dominates offensive space more than anyone we’ve had here in a long time. He’s a hungry aggressive scorer who draws so much attention that it opens other opportunities. We’ve all been begging for a player who can score at will to balance out this offense. He’s apparently that guy. I’m sure there will be bumps along the way, but he’s a different level of talent than anyone from the last few years.
