I was at the 98 spring game where Lewis was running first team at running back, D. Stevenson 2nd, Travis Stephens third, and a guy by the name of Travis Henry running 4th string. Of course Henry doesn't transfer like he had thought about, and goes on to be the all time leader in ut history. My question is. Has there ever been a better class of RB's than the recruiting class of 97? I'm talking the entire nation.

As far as nationwide - recently, you'd be hard pressed to find a better duo than Cadillac Williams and Ronnie Brown.

remember Joe Cribbs, James Brooks, and I think Gerald Riggs sr in that Auburn wishbone in the 70's

Barry Sanders and Thurman Thomas were both at Oklahoma State in 1988. Right off the top of my head, I can't think of a pair that even comes close to those two guys.

I think the 3rd running back in that Wishbone was actually William Andrews. I had forgotten about that one. All 3 of those backs went on to become feature NFL backs. Pretty amazing.

Sorry to be the correction man. :D I understand why you said Riggs though. He was the RB for the Falcons who took over for Andrews when he blew out his knee.

I just looked up Riggs because I couldn't remember either. It was Arizona State.

thats a great two 1st and 2nd backs but do you remember one where just about every HB on the roster went on to become a play maker

Not to mention that other load they had who transferred and now is in the NFL, also.

Chales White and Marcus Allen of USC both on the same team and both heisman winners in 1979 and 1981. Marcus did not start until his jr due to backing up white.

He was a fb but also primary HB when white was on the sidelines. I guess it was hard to keep his talent off the field. Regardless that is one heck of a backfield. If you watch some of the classic sports they both had decent playing like Bush and White this past season.

We actually had a better class of RB's then they did that year on paper: Cedric Houston, Jabari Davis, Derrick Tinsley. Ced Houston was the lowest rated RB of the 3 and he became the starter.

That was the most disappointing class of RB's ever. The lack of development of that group of RB's still bothers me. That group should have been the next verson of Cobb/Webb.

No. They were a bunch of guys, especially Davis, who feasted on running against smaller kids in high school. When they had to take on the kind of players who inhabit D-I, they were just average players. From a talent standpoint, none of those three could carry Cobb or Webb's bags. Jabari Davis and Cedric houston are Exhibits #s 2 and 3, behind 1 and 1a OJ Owens and Robert Boulware, as to why I put next to no stock in recruiting analysts. I remember one idiot comparing Cedric Houston to Barry Sanders.

How 'bout Craig James and Eric Dickerson at SMU. I dare you to find a better duo, pro and college, and I believe they were in the same class?

The best money could buy!

They were the first to come to mind when I first read this. The Pony Express! I wish SMU would make a comeback!

Dickerson never gets the kind of praise his greatness warrants. His first four years in the NFL were as dominant a stretch as any back has ever had. He was gaining big yardage with Dieter Brock at QB.
