Looking at many of these teams playing in bowls, and they aren't good enough to carry our cleats. They should put on their big boy pants and play SEC teams. Then we would see how many of these "also rans" get to a bowl. Grrrrrr!!!! Don't look over your shoulder NCAA, there's a freight train name Vols headed your way!!!:clapping::clapping::clapping:

I get your point but these teams that aren't good enough to carry our cleats are still wearing theirs. I do agree that none of these teams would be playing in a bowl game if they played our schedule but it is what it is. We did not win enough games to make a bowl game.

Comparing records from teams with dissimilar opponents to determine what team is "better" (read: worthy of a bowl game) is about as meaningful as deciding who should play in a bowl by who has the best uniform. IMHO.

But you're right...it is what is is, sadly.

Strength of schedule is a buzz word that is discussed but then ignored.

The point he is making is these mamby pamby teams playing in bowl games would be about 0-8 in the SEC & the Vols are on our way back. I thought he stated it pretty clearly!

This is why there has been so much resistance to a playoff for so long!

Yes, we could probably whoop some of these teams, but it would take several undefeated seasons for them to possibly see a glimpse of the National Championship. Whereas we could do it in 1 season.

Yeah! Strength of schedule sucks unless you truly have a top 5 team or have the luck of the Tigers. I am still glad, however, that we don't have a cupcake schedule! When we make it back to the top, by golly, we will have earned it!

I totally agree with what everyone has said. I just needed to vent. We will get a bowl when we earn it. But it sure would have been fun to see 117 take the field one more time even with their flaws.

After attending UGA & USC I would have agreed, After attending AU, Vandy and South Bama I would not agree.

This to me is the biggest problem with our current system, and it isn't fixed with a play off.

It is that too much is given to the record, with no real study given to how those wins and losses were gained.

Proof that the system is totally wrong (as I've said so many times I am hoarse):

If polls work, the 8th best team could have 7 losses if they played the top 7 teams and still be the 8th best team, yet they wouldn't be ranked and wouldn't make it to a bowl. Therefore, the polls don't really rank the best teams, just the best records which are meaningless.

Bowls are nothing more than a popularity contest. The only requirement is at least 6 wins and the Bowl will take the teams they'll make the most money with. I want a 64 team playoff and do away with the Bowls.

Outside of a Bowl in Hotlanta or Nashvegas, how many of you FANZ would have "traveled" to Florida or somewhere farther to "cheer" for a 6 Win Team.

Outside of the BCS Bowls, teams probably lose money going to them. UT will probably make more money by staying home and getting their SEC split - previously called the Vandy Plan!!

The ONLY thing that can be said for the Poulan Weedeater Bowls of the World is a few more weeks of practice and that's about it.

That's the downside of playing a tough schedule. Even if your team is pretty good it ain't hard to go 5-7. With the bar for bowl games set so low, many 6-6 teams qualify, and if UT had played a lesser team instead of Oregon the vols likely would be too.

When we're good enough to beat Vandy we can go to a bowl game again.

Therein lies the sad, sad,oh so sad truth of the matter.
Oh how, yes, how the once mighty has fallen.
And our tear stained eyes all red and swollen.
We will rise again, the glass ceiling we will shatter.
But for now what BigOrange said, that is the truth of the matter.

I'm still trying to find the teams we could whoop. I see a handful that we might win a close game against but that's about it.

Don't take away from the teams that earned a bowl bid. Any of those teams could hold our cleats right now, but Butch will have us back sooner than later.
