That would be interesting. I know someone who works for Areva and spent time working as a liaison to the Japanese nuclear agency back in the early 2000s. However, I haven't been able to contact the person in several weeks.

So are all the free social programs they have around here (many are simple non-profits). In general I've noticed bums in Portland tend to be more passive than in other areas, particularly the sun belt.

I don't think so. Partial meltdown? Definitely Full meltdown? Likely. Melted through the reactor vessel? Likely. Melted through the primary containment? Not likely, though it could be leaking. Melted through the containment building? No.

The situation isn't pretty, but I don't think that we've melted through the containment building floor. We are likely seeing leaks from the torus of reactor 2, and possibly dry well leaks at reactor 3. This could definitely mean that heavily contaminated water is collecting in the basements and leaking at some rate into the bedrock, if the floor is severly cracked, or into the ocean through gaskets/pipes that are likely damaged from the explosions and earthquakes.

I still think that we have some time before we are in the clear. There are still some unattractive scenarios out there.

I believe it was confirmed one of the reactors had a full meltdown.

We are less than three weeks away from the 25th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster, and the world will have its second zone of alienation in that time.

The great disappointment has been the performance of the Japanese, IMHO. These people, who have suffered the most outrageous wartime nuclear tragedies, have been almost as mendacious and secretive as their Russian counterparts 25 years ago.

Wasn't sure if the monies went directly to the target (e.g. Japan) or simply went into the overall budget of the Redcross where ever they operate (if that makes sense).
