Great Post!!!!!

THIS IS SO TRUE, I AM ORANGE THROUGH AND TRUE. BUT IT DISGUST ME TO WATCH OUR PLAYERS COME OUT AND PLAY FLAT. WHERE IS THE INTENSITY? I AM NOT AN ABURN FAN IN THE LEAST, HOWEVER I WAS IMPRESSED ON HOW PUMPED THEY WERE AGAINST BAMA THIS LAST WEEKEND. IT MADE ME THINK ABOUT THE LEADERSHIP WE HAD UNDER PLAYERS LIKE AL WILSON. WHERE IS THIS ENERGY? WE LOST IT SOMEWHERE, I WANT TO SEE THE VOLS RUN 56 POINTS ON AN OPPONENT, WHEN HAS THAT HAPPENED IN CPF'S CAREER? HE SEEMS TO BE A GREAT COACH AS LONG AS LUCK IS ON HIS SIDE. IT REALY IS GUT WRENCHING TO WATCH US RELY ON THE OTHER TEAM TO LOOSE RATHER THAN US TO WIN.
i AM A NEWBIE SO PLEASE DONT CRUSH ME ON MY FIRST REPLY. i LOVE UT AND THE BALL CLUB, I AM JUST READY TO SEE THE TALENT BE USED TO ITS FULL POTIENTAL. I DONT THINK THE TEAMS THAT BEAT US WERE THAT GOOD THIS YEAR, WE JUST PLAYED THAT POORLY. AND THIS HAS BEEN COMING FOR YEARS. WE LOST OUR INTENSITY AND IDENTITY A FEW YEARS BACK. HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL.

This thread points to the real root of the problem for us fans...  We have been spoiled by our success since 1989.  The past 16 years (exlucing the current) have encompassed one of the most success runs in our program's history: 4 SEC titles, 1 national title, top 5 or 10 winning percentage over that time period.  Unfortunately...

college football is too competitive to stay at the very top every year.  Just ask Nebraksa this year, USC a few years ago, Miami in the late 90s, etc.

Now, before I'm attacked by the cheap seats, let me say that I expect and demand excellence out of our program.  We have too much pride, too much tradition, too many resources and too great of a will to win for anything less.  But one losing season in 16 years ain't bad.  THAT BEING SAID, we should always be competitive - its arguable whether we were or not this year by virtue of an excellent defense - so 2 losing seasons in a row will not stand.

Ultimately, my point is based on Fulmers track record he gets one free pass (only one) and an opportunity to resurrect this program next year.  Next year will define Fulmer's legacy.  He can make the appropriate changes, i.e. instilling discipline and hiring capable assistants and letting them do their thing.  If not, and we don't make any progress with the deep seeded problems we have, then I think he should go.  If Fulmer is great, the VOLS will be great again next season.

Define great?

Challenging for the SEC East. Beating Florida, Georgia, and/or Alabama. Ranked throughout the season, hopefully making some appearances in the top 10. Playing in a New Years Dawl Bowl game.

You know, the things we used to take for granted.

Great to me is winning the SEC, challenging for a NC, going to a BCS bowl. What you said is a good season, but not great.

We haven't really had a "great" season since 98.

I don't disagre with that, its all relative. Where we are right now, what I described would be great. I'd like to see the program back to where that is the norm, and what you just described is the "great" season.

With the off and on the field issues plaguing the Tennessee Football program the last several years, it is time for change. It is pathetic for Fulmer not to truly step up and take responsibilty for the sorry state he has allowed this program to become. I would have more respect for him if he would have stood by his OC and forced the AD, Boosters to fire him. It simply indicates his selfish, anything to save his own ass attitude. If 4 million is the buy out number that has been thrown around that translates to 2 years salary. Haslam and his buddies can handle that if they wanted to. It is time to clean house, flush it out and restore discipline with integrity.

It is a very difficult matter to speak your mind sometimes, there are those who will always critisize you. Particularly when you insist that one of the winningest coaches in the country should lose his job. However, I am not one of those. It is a wonderful thing to recruit one of the country's most talented programs, but is says much when you cannot win with that team. I personally am glad you are not happy with this season, the University recieves a great deal of public funding from the state, and perhaps a little displeasure will affect a change of sorts. Remember, Coach Majors was a very successful coach and when he failed to do well he was fired. Tennessee recovered positively and that situation exists today.

My apologies: I will insert the appropriate discriptive, not made to feel welcome, resign, told he would be fired, asked to leave, be made known he should go somewhere else, his contract would not be renewed. Circle it, but it won't be exact.

The sport, whether its college or not is about money and if he gets a free pass it is not up to you and I. His record is excellant, but I wonder if his star has faded. Losses are not tolerated at any elite football program.

Depends on what the 4th quarter donor's report looks like. I think you nailed it. Whether we win or lose, it's all about the money.

BTW - Welcome to the board.

It is not difficult at all. Fulmer has taken for granted the support of the University, Alumni and Tennessee Volunteer fans everywhere. He has leveraged the 98 NC to the max. Frankly, I"m into winning and having a program with players that WANT to play and produce period along with representing the University with great pride. I have not witnessed that in many many years. Fulmer has had every incentive possible; facilities, budget and principally his salary to be successful every year. I recognize that many followers of the program may have a diifferent perspective but my sense is there are serious doubts as to Fulmers ability going forward. Finally, let me just say, Phillip Fulmer is a national laughing stock. It is no secret that he has done the worst coaching performance in the country this year and there is not a close second. I don't care about Fulmer and his personal agenda but I do care about the University and it's success.

Would agree. We will find out next year if his star has faded.

I don't think it has whatsoever but in today's win everything right nor else attitude...who knows

We just need some new blood and fresh ideas on the staff. The Old Alumni believes that we can play the same type of football that we have been playing since UT has had a football team. Plus, the new staff needs to have a discpline first attitude.

UT, hands down, has the best athletes in the nation, and there isn't any excuse on how the season played out like it did. When your recruiting status is that high year after year, you can't have a bad season such as this.

Fulmer is a great recruiter of atheletes, but he does nothing to refine their intangiables and character. After all, they are still kids that need guidance. :matrix:
