Fulmer and Recruits

I think that begs the question of where you would send your kid to. Bama? UF? LSU? UGA?

I mean most schools have these types of issues... and some worse. Look at UF- UT's problems are the kind of typical, non-violent kind (except for Vereen getting jumped) that most college kids get into. UF has had guys shooting guns and the like.

So where would you send your kid? BYU? Liberty?

Dawson's post could've been made in 2005 and would have been 100% dead-on. The team was a pre-season Top 3 and there was nary a whisper of discontent regarding Fulmer, other than a few folks on the fringes who didn't like the fact that most fans could call 90% of the offensive plays before they were run.

Then there was the meltdown of the 2005 season and everyone's job was on the line in 2006. Suddenly, disciplinary issues are no longer a problem and I readily credit the staff for tightening the reigns. The 2006 season was good enough to preserve the stauts quo on the staff but not good enough to warrant any significant raises or cotnract extensions. Discipline remained mostly in check, BB guns on the interstate notwithstanding.

Next comes the "turnaround", mythical SEC East championship, 10-win (out of 14 games) season. Fulmer gets a significant contract extension, a raise, and a an unmitigated vote of confidence from the AD. For now, it looks like Fulmer may die on the sidelines from old age if that is how he wants it to play out. The pressure is off and suddenly we are right back to where we were three years ago, the last time the pressure was really off.

All of this begs the question, was it really a smart call to take the pressure off?

I still think the pressure is still on Phil. He had to go in a different direction with the recent staff hires. He had to hire quality people. I really think he hired his replacement in Clawson. The next few years will get Clawson ready for the job.

You will really piss-off the people who think Peyton is going to replace Fulmer, i.e. 99% ofthe Fulmer worshippers.

Helton would be about 100 times better than Delmonico.

You ever wonder why Helton waited until Rod was no longer here before he came back to the University?

I was actually thinking football...it would be just as likely! :eek:lol:

Wow! The way some of you are talking, we should be wearing orange/white stripes next year on the field. I believe in discipline, however, I have never had to oversee 85 young testosterone filled young men in the prime of their lives. I can tell you this, as the quality of the athlete goes up, also does his super ego, and the higher his basal brain flight or fright come into play. Yes, there are problems, and Yes there will continue to be problems, its the nature of the beast!!!

Peyton also had a much different upbringing than many of these athletes. That has to be a huge factor.
I inferred from piney's post that he falls more into the nature (basal brain reactions) side fo the nature vs. nurture debate. Although, I agree with you.

I could care less about all the psychology. Dumb is Dumb. If you act like an idiot. If you have ZERO regard for your teammates and the University. Then you should be off the team. PERIOD
