I'm working with Freak to install a new feature where if someone actually says something new and enlightening when it comes to this debate, it will set off a chime a la the Emrgency Broadcast System so we can all race to this thread to read it.
 We should probably test it every few months to make sure it still works.

Come on peaygolf89, I want to know why a guy with a 147–54–2 record and recent Big East coach of the Year would be a bad hire.

How many conference championships do Oklahoma, Ohio State, UGA and Auburn have over the past 10 years?

That's all fans are asking for.

Thank you groves! All those teams have won multiple conference championships except for Auburn in the last ten years.

A bit optimistic about reading some new stuff here to pass the day, aren't you?:eek:lol:

We win SEC championships in football more often... and WE ALL KNOW THAT'S BEEN 9 YEARS NOW!

Wonder if the coaches would like to critique our posts? That would fun to read for a change. :whistling:

Ohio State seems like an easy choice for those who simply want to support a team that wins conference championships.

Who? Kelley?

Great coach, never said he was bad! Just don't think he would come to UT! He's a Big Ten coach in waiting!
He would have been perfect for Michigan.

Schino(sp) will go to Penn State when JoPa retires and Kelley may be at Purdue in a couple years! My Opinion!

But....Lets be honest! If UT announced that Kelley was the new coach, some may like it, but 90% on this site would go balistic!

First off, it's Kelly.
Secondly, I know for a fact 90% would not be angry with that hire.

There have been 2 coaching changes in Knoxville in the past 35 years or so. Any coaching change would cause cause a portion of the fanbase to freak out.

The Fulmerite's will freak out, the NegaVols will be happier than ever, and the typical Vol fans will be split depending on the hire.

The Fulmerites likely won't freak out since the end of the Fulmer reign will likely be a result of retirement IMO. As for the "negaVols", I've always considered them to actually be the typical fan. What's more typical than being a cynical sports fan?

I do think, though, that the retirement is going to be a little sooner than some think. I don't think it's more than 4 or 5 years away. Funny how guys with la lot of money and access to deferred income and pension funds start looking at retirement around the age of 59 1/2.

I've never posted her during an off season. Boy, this is going to be a loooong time. I'll say the same thing that I did in my very first post here, Gruden isn't coming anytime soon. It's funny to watch some of this, though. Especially utmba, who crticises people for not being loyal, yet is not a fan of the bball team. I guess part time loyalty is better than none?

that looks good on paper, until you realize the Big 10 still has co champions, not every team plays each other and there's no format to determine one champ. theoretically, you can have 3 teams go undefeated in the big 10 in the same year. It also doesn't help that only two teams year in and year out win the darn thing, so eventually it only becomes a big deal to the teams that rarely win it, ie N'western, Illinois, wisconsin, PSU etc.....

in other words, the big 10 conf. championship doesn't mean as much as the SEC conf. championship....

everyone in the SEC wants to win the conf. every year. it's still a big deal.

Georgia and Auburn?? Add them up and let me know! Oklahaoma competes with 1 team...Texas! OSU competes with 1 team... Michigan. Every 4 years another team jumps into the fold like Missouri/Wisconson. The SEC has 6 great teams each year! It's not the same!

I guess Illinios and Kansas playing in BCS bowls got past you. Or that Mizzou played Oklahoma in the Big 12 championship game.

UGA has 2 conference titles and Auburn has one since 1998

in his defense, it's not like those things are a regular occrance....historicaly speaking, he's correct.

I'm not sure I've even used the the 'loyalty' term here, so that's not true. And, I do want UT to do well in basketball, but I like Tar Heels basketball more. It would be nice if the Tar Heels could field a football team, too, but as most everyone here has noticed, I'm obviously not one to get carried away with optimism. :)

That really is true. There are many examples of SEC teams that would have won regular season conference championships but lost in the SECCG since it was implemented in 1992.
