Fulmer got in Ainge's face tonight..........

I really thought that Anderson would be a factor this season, boy was I wrong about that.

One of the callers on the post game show commented on that. The fullbacks not doing anything to help the offensive lineman out. It was a good point. :vava:

If the results just keep getting better I bet EA doesn't even mind the chewing. EA has definately been the most pleasant surprise so far this year to me. I know the D-Line is struggling some but doesn't the fact that the LBs are making so many plays say that the D-Line is at least keeping people occupied to allow the LBs to work?

Explain to me why Fat Boy wasn't getting in the FB's face! Those 2 FB's are horrible

I really don't think Ainge understands the concept of stepping up in the pocket. I know you can't step up if a D Tackle is comming right up the middle, but even when there comming from the outside he trys to run away. If he'd just step up, yeah he might still get sacked but it'll be for about -4 yards instead of the usual -7 or -8. I honestly have never saw Ainge ever step up in the pocket.

As for Phil chewing a little ass. About time. He had the finger going and everything. When the camera went back it looked like Ainge was saying something back and pissing him off more.
I've seen the games against Cal and Florida so far, and I've witnessed him doing that a handful of times. Yes, he does sometime run away too soon, but it's not like he does it all the time.

I don't have a problem with CPF getting in anyone's face but I did think it somewhat goofy to be yelling at Ainge rather than our entire offensive line or fullbacks. What games has he been watching? Ainge is doing a great job this year. On the other hand, the O-line could not block a team of grandma's. Wake up Fulmer and yell at some people that really need it.

I was happy to see that entire exchange. Fulmer getting in Ainge's face; Ainge getting ticked and firing back; Fulmer stepping up the heat; Ainge nodding and accepting the responsibility. To me, it looked like two competitive fires burning, with a final willingness by the player to listen and learn from what the coach was saying. And the direct interaction between Phil and his QB will make him a better player and us a better team.

Ainge was probably saying, get me some O lineman that can block and you won't have to worry about me throwing stupid passes as 5 defenders are breathing down my neck!

I think we have two really talented and athletic fullbacks. I hate to beat a dead horse, but I don't think they are getting good position coaching. Who coaches them, anyway? Is it the TE coach, or is there a coach for all the backs?

did fulmer or ainge talk about this in any of the postgame interviews?
Kesling asked Coach about it, and Phil played it off. One of those things where you don't want to embarass your QB on statewide radio. He pretty much said "We had a long conversation about that(the sack Ainge took that made the FG try very long), but Erik has made many strides this year. The more those things happen, he'll learn from them. We just need him to learn from us TELLING him instead."

I think Ainge takes too long to go through his progressions. The slightest bit of pressure hurts his composure. IMO he has played well at times, but he still lacks the consistency this team needs to beat the GAs and LSUs of the world. CPF is more than justified in his actions. Lets keep this sense of urgency up.

Out of topic, but it involves Fulmer:

Did anyone see JoePa run across the field yesterday at The Ohio State game. Anyway as soon as I saw that I thought this:

If Joe Paterno and Phil Fulmer were pitted together in a 40 yard dash, who do you put your money on?

I'm just happy to see some fire from Fulmer, it is as if having Cut back has put the fire back in him to DEMAND perfection. THAT is what won us a title in '98. A demand for PERFECTION. :)

Well, it may be Cut's influence, but I think more likely it's what a 5-6 season will do to you (if you still have the fire in your belly to compete). Not to diminish Cut's influence, which is readily apparent in EA's play!

I don't think Cut put the fire in CPF. I think he was going to have it this year regardless of who he brought in on staff.

It is certainly your right to be of that opinion, but Coach Fulmer has been terribly flat ever since Cut left, and it is my opinion that his return has helped fuel that fire.

I'd rather see EA take the sack that attempt something stupid (read: LSU game last year)

Some sacks are unavoidable- take it, and avoid a retarded turnover or being hit with a 15 yard int. grounding penalty.

What are you TALKING ABOUT? Grounding is exactly the same as taking the sack. It is a spot foul with loss of down.

Well if you look at it, Cut left just before the Fiesta bowl. We won the NC (CPF was not flat in that game) and had a couple of good years due to such a high degree of talent that helped to hide problems. a 5-6 season was the shock he needed (I wish is wasn't) to get awaken. No dogin to Cut like was pointed out, he is a very good OC and QB coach. But the fire was going to be there for CPF this year no matter what. His off season must have been pure hell. And it should have been.

Thought Ainge played well. Made a couple mistakes including taking sack. Something that they must have drilled into him all week. Fulmer's reaction was to probably frustration about going over something again and again and then he makes that mistake. Ainge is getting better week to week.

Well, I didn't mean flat necessarily from a W/L standpoint, but more from an emotional standpoint. He relaxed many of the team rules after cut left, possibly most notably the requirement that players live on campus. I'm pretty sure that, and many other disciplinary rules have now been reinstated. I guess you can peg it on the 5-6 season, or Cut coming back... or both. They certainly are related with Sanders falling on his sword for the 5-6 debacle, opening room for Cut to come back.

 Sorry my reaction was so brash. You aren't the only one who has thought that. Many that complained about him getting the grounding call at the end of the Florida game didn't understand it either... it was the same as if he got sacked. :good!:
