You know we will NOT go back to power football, right. CLK was brought in to run a prostyle offense. And by gimmick offenses do you mean the spread option which has won 2 of the last 3 MNCs?

Yes I do, but also note the person (Tebag) who is running that offense is 1 in a million.

Can we please but a ban on all threads that include Fulmer in it? Talk about beating a dead horse. We might as well bring up Buzz Peterson and how bad he was. Your opinion no longer matters the guy is gone and not coming back

I think "gimmick" means, a WR playing QB, because we don't want to throw an interception.

Just like yours doesn't matter when you come in here and offer other people advice on a message board on starting threads that you don't like. I felt it important enough to elaborate on something that even I thought was a misnomer with Fulmer, and that was in recruiting.

Fulmer had some good recruiting years and some below average ones too. Problem was the bad years with less talent, was not developed when it left.

Actually, recruiting REALLY went downhill starting with the class of Erik Ainge and Co. Fulmer lost out on several key state prospects after that and had more busts than bank with 4* and 5* prospects. We haven't recruited REALLY well since 2002. We rode the NC in recruiting for 4 years and then it all went downhill after never hitting the same success of the mid-late 90's.

The fact that the 4s and 5s didn't pan out doesn't make Fulmer any worse of a recruiter. It just shows the previous coaching staffs inability to coach.

It shows both. Getting the 4* and 5*'s on campus to play should help you look better as a coach since talent can help sustain poor coaching. The fact that I can go back and see how bad some of the classes did and how most of the higher rated guys turned out to be busts let's me know that evaluation of talent and coaching that talent go hand in hand.

Good points, but its not like we were the only school going after all these players in recent years. Players like Crompton, D-Mo, Daniel Brooks, etc. had offers from all over the country.

He had a 2 fold problem, talent coming in, went down over time. And we have not done a good job of developing the great talent or the average talent.

I agree, the recruiting went down in recent years. However, I don't think we had 5-6 talent in '05 or even 5-7 talent this year. That was on the coaching staff.

In the 90's we had to beat FL for talent, to beat them on the field. As of late you can add, UGA, Bama, LSU, and Auburn. At the least. It got harder to go to Louisiana, Georgia, and Alabama, and pull the great players.

Yeah, when I was looking at the one post that had the 2002-2008 classes...it seemed that we signed AT LEAST 1 5 star every year....except for I think 2007-2008. But it's awesome that we now have a coach who realizes stars (recruiting stars, that is) aren't everything. I admire him for what he did to Tajh Boyd and Bryce Perry. I mean, yeah, the number 2 rated Dual Style quarterback according to Rivals....but Rivals rates on their system. They go on talent, or what they think talent is. But truth is, talent can be enhanced or suppressed depending on the system that the talent is placed in. I highly doubt that Tim Tebow would fit on Texas Techs offense. I mean, surely Leach would find a way to make it work, but even though Tebow CAN pass, it doesn't fit his tendencies.
Boyd and Perry didn't fit our system, and even though they were rated as overall high talent, that doesn't mean that their talent would have been enhanced or used right in our system. Kiffin is doing things right. Getting talent in Tennessee is imperative. Look at Texas' roster, or USC (Cali), or Ohio State....and their roster is mainly in-state kids. Make it where there is not an option to go anywhere else but Tennessee. We'll take the players that people are after because of stars, and the players that people aren't after that have the raw talent, and Monte and O will coach them up. I'm excited for National Signing Day!
