Fulmer Speaks...

We're talking about Tennessee here. How often do we face an option style offense anyways? Plus, if we defended the option like gang busters every other style of offense we faced would pound us royal. Why? Because we're Tennessee...

Tennessee is a team that can only be good at one thing at a time.

i'm confused, what is it basketball this year:)

I'm bothered by the fact that NUMEROUS Hog fans were on THIS VERY BOARD this week saying "When McFadden is behind center, you know what's coming" then Fulmer, who's paid $2m+ a season says he was bothered by it.

Negative, ran the same stuff against S.C. Difference is S.C. adjusted

Tennessee did adjust, refer to 3 pts in the 2nd half by Arkansas (scored after an interception).

Arkansas put the game away in the last 5 minutes of the 1st half. It was 14-7 and they had 2 drives that killed the Vols. The 2nd half was a different story (Vols defense clamped down), but Crompton just didn't have the stuff tonight. Arkansas' defense should not have been good enough to really hold the Vols to the low point production it did tonight.

doesn't surprise me. he needs to go the game has passed him by. the influx of new coaches into the sec has exposed him as being a average coach. he just can't keep up with the rest of the sec.

Arkansas easily could have put 28 more up in the second half. They called off the dogs. Saying we adjusted to Arkansas is like saying Cal adjusted to us in the second half.

so does chavis go with him?? it's funny our offensive woes were blamed on fulmer and sanders... where's chavis in all of this? he had no scheme whatsoever going into this game

He's never culpable. From 2001-2004 it was always Casey Clausen's fault. It was Clausen't fault we lost to LSU in the SECCG, blah blah.

wow, what a word we are breaking out. I think it's officially time for Chavis to be culpable. I know our D is banged up and thin, but again, our D looked like we didn't have a plan at all. I'm not ready to fire him, but the kindling of the fire has started

"I don't think we answered the bell at all in the first half, emotionally or whatever it was," Tennessee Coach Phillip Fulmer said. "That goes back to me and the coordinators and us getting ourselves ready to play. We've been a team that's been emotionally into the season all year long."

So what does he and the coaches actually DO? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

I thought our D was the only good thing last year? No one was blaming Chavis last year.
They were good statistically, but look at the six losses last year and every one of them the defense couldn't stop the opposition's offense at critical points in the fourth quarter.

This is absolutely absurd! Why is it that so many of you guys try to claim that every single player that torches our team is so great? Yes, McFadden is a really good running back. However, Air Force lit up our defense. AIR FORCE!!!! What was posted on this board afterwards? Air Force has a phenomenal offense. They ran that option so well nobody could stop it. BS! Air Force has been beaten by a lot of really bad teams this year. The problem is that our lazy coaching staff refuses to put in the work necessary to learn how to stop the option attack and to teach it to our defense. Our defense just flat out sucks! Everybody looks great against us because we're that bad! It is absolutely disgusting to me that you guys are so willing to accept mediocrity. Why is it that we get lit up by the option EVERY SINGLE TIME WE EVER FACE IT? Answer: Atrocious coaching!!!

That is pretty much the way I saw it as well.

We must have been watching different games. I saw McFadden still running the ball late in the 4th quarter on the same plays I saw him running in the 1st half. We adjusted and got a handle on him. Of course, it came far too late, but the defense did eventually show up.

They were good statistically, but look at the six losses last year and every one of them the defense couldn't stop the opposition's offense at critical points in the fourth quarter.

In those 6 losses, we averaged scoring 14 points per game. To hang them on the defense is, IMHO, a bit unfair.

So true, I never hear Chavis name when firing comes down, but I do hear praise and great dc, when in fact his d has lost the three games we lost this year, and I dont se where they could have put up 28 more in the second half, they didnt call off the dogs, they were still running the sam personnell and same plays we did adjust second half, we just got beat by a team that had a lot more at stake

Didn't Arkansas fumble at our 3 yard line in the 3rd quarter? They let up. They knew they had the game in the bag. It was men playing and coaching against boys. If Ainge was healthy we could have made a better showing, but we still don't win this game. Gameday's first ever visit, national TV, playing for respect, they were geeked. Plus, we were content in the 3rd quarter, down 21, to dink, dunk, and work on our running game, when we should have been airing it out to try and get back in the game. The way Colquitt was punting, a bomb downfield that was intercepted would have been better than a punt. Arkansas wanted this game more than we did at every single position, period.

I do think they were a little surprised by Ark putting McFadden in at QB and running so much option with him. We still should have defended it better, but I think that's the first time they've shown that.

actually we had run Dmac out of QB 12 times for like 118 yds in previous games. with a few td's. so we had shown it in past games just not that much.

They were working the clock. No reason to get creative or show a new wrinkle in a game that is clearly already won. Had they wanted, they could have alternated with handing off to McFadden and play action passes to Monk and they would have scored 28 in the second half.

Listening to Fulmer talk after a game should be used down in the Gitmo prison.

Haha, my Dad and I were talking while walking to our truck after the game and he said, I can hear it now, "Dog gone it, we are just going to have to work harder this week and get the ship straightened up". I didn't exactly find it funny at the time but it was, mainly because it is right on how all of his post game shows go after a loss.

That's pretty much what I saw them doing in the second half, running the ball with McFadden, running that inside option with he and Jones, and throwing to Monk, but they didn't have as much success. We made adjustments, but it was far too late.

I didn't see them call off the dogs until our last touchdown drive.
