Here's a fun stat for those that feel this team simply/only needs a Heisman level performance from the QB position to win games/championships:

Since 2021 Tennessee has 13 games giving up 30+ points, and went 3-10 in them. In the same time, Bama has 6, 1-5 in them, and UGA has 3, and is 2-1 in them. Defense is still key in winning championships, end of story.

The defense needs to get better, especially on 3rd down. We need better DBs or to give some young guys a chance. Have to have some guys who can successfully play press coverage on occasion.

But being on the field all game is bad for any defense. Early 3&outs stack up and eventually your defense ends up catching their breathe a majority of the game.

Gave up 6 first downs, 3 of them on 3rd down on the first 2 UGA possessions. If the defense actually got off the field early in the game, that argument about 3 and outs would have more merit because the defense at least showed competence and the ability to get off the field early in the game.

Back to Back 3 and outs makes the defense gassed.

Our defense is not bad , can’t be on the field a full qtr longer than the really good teams in this league and expect to win . Can’t have average scoring drives of 2 minutes and expect your defense to play lights out they just get tired PERIOD..

Can’t win games when your defense is on field a game qtr longer than other team. Better learn how to sporadically run this hurry up. Or results will be same every year 8-4 - 10-2 . I don’t expect National Championships with this offense, defense wins championships but ours will always be gassed out by end of 1st half.

Back before we played Florida I made the comment here that the hurry up offense we ran ( at least we tried earlier in the season) demands you execute and make 1st downs, otherwise you are punting the ball after having run about 2 minutes off the clock and your defense is always gassed. Maybe this is why CJH got away from the hurry up knowing our defense can't stop any team with a passing game. Georgia has been dominate this long because of their defense and Bama as well.

The defense gave up 6 first downs, with 3 of them being 3rd down conversions in UGAs first 2 drives. If they were gassed by that point, then the defense is even worse than just not executing.

40 min Ga time of possession, Tenn 20. Can’t win that way.

💯.......when you play a fast paced offense or your offense doesn't have the ability to score enough, your defense is gonna get gassed because they are essentially playing 2 games. Georgia is able to sub every series and never skip a beat because they have 4 and 5 star talent at every level, so it's hard to compete when you have an offense that can't score and a defense not deep enough to sustain the TOP.

I hate to break it to you but we will never have “championship” defense with the type of offense Heup is running. The question is can he make it work or does he realize the gimmick won’t work in the SEC?
