In the early 70s, I did have friends who took on a brotherly protectiveness towards my younger sisters. They threatened to take disrespectful boys out into the deep woods and leave them tied to a tree. The thing is, there were some who would actually do this. Keeping them in check was almost as much of a challenge as dissuading the wrong kinda boys from pursuing my sisters. I have a keen memory of the look on one fellow's face when Emory growled, "I will take you down the dirt roads of the hills of Northern Alabama and sell you to men who will keep you chained and ream your ass day and night!"
