Love listening to his stories.
I'm in part of the mountain area of Georgia
Had a cajun get stationed with me in Korea. When I first met him I greeted him as Sgt HE-Bert cause that's the way it was spelled. He laughed and informed me it was pronounced A-Bear. Lol"People always asks me what kinda wine does I drink wi dis and what kinda wine does I drink wi dat. I always tell them, any kind you like,"

That marthafawker could cook! He was only one of three that could stay up with me drinking.
I'm glad I'm down to a cocktail about twice a month now.
Griffin native myself. My dad is from Gainesboro, Jackson County, TN. (Cummins Falls/Cummins Falls State Park is my family). We moved here 4 years ago as he and mom were aging. Lived in Hartwell for 16 years before moving to the farm. He worked for UGA as a peanut scientist, and was at the UGA Experiment station in Griffin. So, I grew up there. He came home when he retired. Jimmy Carter said when it came to peanut knowledge, my dad was king of the world.
Damn! That sounds good. I miss his cooking. No homoOh, they can cook by god. A Cajun thanksgiving is awesome. rice dressing. the way they fix the corn. the turkey is pierced all over with a knife and stuffed with chopped onions, bell pepper, and cayenne and garlic then roasted with a spicy rub. Gumbo for the day after thanksgiving. Left over Gumbo is mixed with a healthy dose of rice for chicken and rice. Crawfish boil every spring.
And yes, the proper way to say it is a-bear. My brother in laws german shepherd is named Hebert. (A-bear). after old Saints QB Bobby Hebert. And that is exactly how it is said. And if you're thirsty, ask for wUter ( "short" U like bubbly), not wAter. (If it's not alcohol like you said. That is the most abundant liquid at any get together. It's almost a requirement. there's usually a jar of shine somewhere too).
Hartwell isn't far down the road, and lake Hartwell is good fishing.Griffin native myself. My dad is from Gainesboro, Jackson County, TN. (Cummins Falls/Cummins Falls State Park is my family).
