I think it's been shown that Florida isn't the job everyone thinks it is. I know, I know, "all that instate talent!" But instate talent is an overrated factor. They have to share that talent with a lot of other programs. And a lot of programs have more to sell...better facilities, better fans, perhaps better NIL deals.
Think about it, the only two Florida coaches who've had success are Spurrier and Meyer...two of the greatest coaches who ever lived. Muschamp was supposed to be a great hire. He flopped. Mullen took Mississippi State to a #1 ranking. If he doesn't succeed there, that's a pretty strong indictment.
That said, the best thing for Tennessee would be someone who does just well enough to hang around, but not get fired. Someone like Mullen. Although I'm not sure who the hot names on their board would be if they were to fire him. Fickell, perhaps?
Are you really saying the UT job is “on par” with the UA and UF jobs? Really? Right now UT is “on par” with UK and Mizzou. The Florida job is slightly overrated. But it's on par with Tennessee and Alabama. You do have to be able to recruit at all 3 schools, it's not like LSU, Georgia, and USC where talent just falls into your lap. That said, I still think Florida is probably slightly ahead of UT and Bama, just due to the in-state talent. But you do have to have a coach that will go out and get that talent; it's not just going to come to you.
That said, I think Mullen is probably being very underestimated right now. This is pretty much the low-point of his entire career. He was in the playoff discussion last year.
And I don't think Emory Jones is that good of a QB. He'd be better of switching to Richardson. Truth be told, Richardson probably isn't "ready" yet, but he's going to give Mullen a much better shot at winning over the long-term.
I think the gun was put to Mullen’s head on these two with assurances that there was plenty of ammunition left if he didn’t like it
I wonder if something has happened "under the hood". I agree, this seemingly came out of nowhere. Pass along any swampgas scuttlebutt.I can't recall a team or a coach who fell further, faster, for anything non criminal.
After the apparent adjustments by our defense in the second half of Alabama game and the sense that things were going in the right direction Gator fans were singing his praises ... just a complete collapse.

You gotta realize the game in Knoxville next fall has gotten interesting. I remember a six (or was it seven) game win streak against some mediocre Alabama teams starting in ‘95. There was a lot of pent up frustration that brings out the ravenous fans, even when the game isn’t that good and when you are not the underdog.I haven't seen anything "under the hood," as you call it. I think we fans were just a combo of misled by what appeared to be a major turnaround in the Alabama game (but was just them maybe not being as good as we thought) plus wishful thinking on our part that the defense would not be the liability this year as it was last year.
Wrong on both counts.
Eerily similar to the Georgia game with Pruitt last year. Something happened at halftime and he lost the team.I wonder if something has happened "under the hood". I agree, this seemingly came out of nowhere. Pass along any swampgas scuttlebutt.![]()
He made the staff firings to satisfy most gator fans. They will win out and things will look better. I think many are premature in calling this stretch the demise of Dan Mullen. If, however, Richardson leaves, the seat gets hotter.
Samford is the only guaranteed win left on our schedule.
FSU smells blood in the water.
