On my way to work this morning, they mentioned the "outage" affecting Comcast customers. I was able to open facebook and my email was fine. It was just VN I had trouble with. Weird.
There is an ongoing issue with internet connectivity in the area where the datacenter is located. Four of the Tier1 Internet Service Providers in the area are experiencing connectivity issues ranging from moderate to major outages. The following providers are all experiencing outages -- look at the Lake Michigan/Central Michigan area in the DownDetector maps:

Allstream has confirmed that there was a fiber cut yesterday evening between Chicago and Montreal. A severe storm also went through Central Michigan overnight which dropped record rainfall on Detroit. This may well be a primary cause of the outage for some of the Internet Providers listed above.
