“They definitely see me in that orange and white and definitely are wanting me to come up there and make plays, and come up there for a game this season to watch them play and just be around them to keep building that relationship.”

Stewart has visited Tennessee at least a handful of times throughout his recruitment, including a few trips to Knoxville during former Vols coach Jeremy Pruitt’s tenure. After visiting Tennessee on June 3 and then returning June 27 for the Vols’ cookout, he said he’s impressed by what he has seen and heard from Heupel’s staff so far.

“I really like the new staff, building that relationship with Coach Martinez and the way he plays his DBs,” Stewart said. “And Coach Heupel, (I like) the way he just has a plan for his whole program and his vision, and then (defensive coordinator Tim) Banks and how he does things.

“I just really like their scheme, how they handle stuff — on the defensive side of the ball and even off the field.”

He accompanied one of his North Cobb teammates — edge rusher Joshua Josephs, who’s also one of Tennessee’s top targets in the 2022 class — on his most recent trip to Knoxville. But Stewart said he wasn’t simply joining Josephs in traveling to Knoxville, although he had visited the Vols a little more than three weeks earlier.

“Definitely had to stop by there,” he said. “The coaches really wanted me up there to kick it with them, spend some time with them and then be with my family. We definitely wanted to see that, and we definitely wanted to be a part of that. We had a really good time up there, like we always do. ...

“They show a lot of love to me, so definitely wanted to go, just for me. They’re recruiting me and Josh really heavily. (I spent time) definitely with Coach Martinez, with Coach Heupel and Coach Chop,” Stewart added, referring to Harbin.

“It was a whole bunch of guys. I was just having a good time with everybody.”

Stewart said Tennessee’s coaches have continued to make him a priority because “they love the way I’m physical when I come (down) making tackles off the corner spot.”

“It’s kind of rare to see a cornerback making tackles like that, and they really love me out there in that corner spot doing that, and also playing my technique, my man, and then playing that zone really well,” he said. “And they definitely believe I can do that coming into Tennessee.”

KENTUCKY COMMIT STILL CONSIDERING VOLS
Josephs’ North Cobb teammate, Kentucky cornerback commitment Andre Stewart, has taken a hard look at Tennessee in recent months despite his commitment to the Wildcats, and the Vols still appear to be one of the main teams he’s considering going into his senior season. Sources said Tennessee might be the biggest threat to Kentucky at this point, although it’s worth noting that the former Auburn commitment now is considering the Tigers again. Michigan, led by former Kentucky defensive backs coach Steve Clinkscale, also is now in the picture.
Stewart traveled to Tennessee twice during the month of June, including a trip to Knoxville on June 27 during which he accompanied Josephs in attending the Vols’ cookout. Sources said Stewart is planning to take an official visit to Tennessee this fall, and it’s not out of the question that he could attend multiple games there this season. It still might not be easy for the Vols to landing him, but Tennessee has given itself a realistic shot at stealing him away from Kentucky.

mburkeen01: Think we can flip Andre Stewart from Kentucky?

Callahan: Stewart is definitely one of Tennessee’s most realistic flip possibilities right now — probably the most realistic at this point, actually. There’s a long way to go in that one, and he’s going to take a bunch of visits this season, so we’ll see how it plays out.
But if he flips anywhere, I think Tennessee is as well-positioned as any of the other schools he’s considering. Keep an eye on Auburn, though — he’s a former Auburn commitment — and I wouldn’t count out Michigan, considering his strong relationship with Wolverines DBs coach Steve Clinkscale, who was Stewart’s primary recruiter at Kentucky before leaving for Michigan this spring.

When was the last time you learned something after reading a Callahan write up. He’s vague and generic and uses a lot of words to basically put out info that’s already out there. Doesn’t even put a CB out until it’s common knowledge where the kid is going.

Almost anyone on this forum can do his job.

Like me desperately trying to reach the minimum word limit on a school paper.

CB ANDRE STEWART

Stewart is a teammate of four-star edge rusher Joshua Josephs, another of Tennessee's top targets, at North Cobb High School in Kennesaw, Ga. Stewart has been committed to Kentucky for more than six months, but the Vols never stopped recruiting him and have remained in the running for him. He traveled to Tennessee for a pair of unofficial visits in June and has discussed making the trip again this season to attend at least one of the Vols' home games, and he hasn't ruled out taking an official visit to Knoxville. Michigan and Mississippi State are among the other teams that have been in contact with him in recent months. But Tennessee is widely believed to be one of the main threats to the Wildcats, although the 6-foot, 175-pound Stewart has continued to indicate that it won't be easy for anyone to steal him away from Kentucky.
