The way I understood it was that it just mitigates the amount that he is paid by the buyout

I can guarantee you that Butch Jones would never accept a job that would mean a loss of 1 to 2 million dollars off his annual salary. Which is understandable because neither would I that would be stupid.

I am just letting everyone know that him to UGA is NOT a forgone conclusion that that this week it became extremely clear that we have a very good shot at getting him. We will continue to work him and if the stars align or if they go sideways I certainly will share that as well. The good with the bad... But right now this is headed in the direction I want it to.

We pay the difference. Dooley was on the payroll for years after we fired him because Dallas didn't pay him near as much as his head coaching salary here.

Butch Jones's buyout is offset by whatever he is making a his other job. Right now we pay him $35,000 less than he made before he became an an intern at Bama. If he took another head coaching job at say ECU and made $1,000,000 then his buyout from UT would be $1,000,000/year less than it was the year before.
