Apologies, a "1-11 program" is probably more accurate. It wasn't an attempt to be misleading. Don't mistake my comment as a defense of Deion. I'm just saying, from an unbiased perspective, he has improved their standing. Now, can he maintain it and build on it? That is the next question. I have my doubts though landing in the Big 12 may help. This is misleading as all get out. He didn’t take that 1-11 team anywhere. He cut them and replaced the entire roster.
He then stated “we’re not coming anymore, we here!”
Then he went 4-8.
I didn’t see Heupel getting the same pats on the back when he took a 3-7 team to 7-6 against a much tougher schedule. Deion is all about himself. And needs all the attention he can get to satisfy his ego. The press fell for it and some still are.Deion was a bit of a victim of his early success and a stronger than usual Pac-12. Once the competition picked up, the losses started piling up. They lost to USC by 7, Stanford by 3, Oregon St. by 7, Arizona by 3 and Utah by 6. That's five games by one score. Only twice were they just not competitive. In the end, he took a 1-11 football team to a 4-8 football team, which is marked improvement.
He got Colorado football in the national spotlight in September. Part of that is because he's a self-promoter. I don't like him, but it will be interesting to see how he does in year 2. I'm not much of a believer in his actual coaching ability.
I think Heupel got the level of attention that his ego sought. Same with Deion. Deion is also the anti-Heupel, so his bravado and persona is bound to attract some level of attention when it was new on the scene. Loudmouth, anti-establishment types tend to do that and tend to draw a crowd. Similarly to why Donald Trump gets the media attention he does, like him or not. Coincidentally, he and Deion Sanders are equally polarizing.I didn’t see Heupel getting the same pats on the back when he took a 3-7 team to 7-6 against a much tougher schedule. Deion is all about himself. And needs all the attention he can get to satisfy his ego. The press fell for it and some still are.

Same reason cowboys get more coverage than any other nfl team. Life is unfair, deal with it and adjust to itI didn’t see Heupel getting the same pats on the back when he took a 3-7 team to 7-6 against a much tougher schedule. Deion is all about himself.
