'24 GA QB Jake Merklinger (Tennessee)

Tennessee picked up their sixth commitment for 2024 with quarterback Jake Merklinger pulling the trigger to the Vols on Thursday. Having Nico Iamaleava already on campus could have made it difficult but Merklinger is a competitor and chose a tougher path to the field with the school he feels most comfortable at over a greater chance at immediate playing time somewhere else.

Who is going to care when he becomes a first round draft choice?
There is a certain notoriety when you're landing an instate QB that Georgia coveted. Would be used as marketing out on the trail and with peer rakrooting....moran.

A late BOOM is better than no boom at all!

He's a top 100 player/top 10 QB nationally. Doesn't that kinda just sell itself?

Don't see the need to validate this commitment against what another program did or didn't intend with their offer...

What does asking that question even attempt to accomplish, if not to devalue the player in the eyes of some?

He had a committable offer from Heupel. You really shouldn’t need any other validation.
Sure it does. It makes me feel a sense of warmth in my twisted heart knowing that many adult frat boys and girls are downtrodden because their bowl cut couldnt grab the top QB in state. Yes, I realize that says a lot about me. And yes, i'm good with it.

Ok…devil’s advocate. What exactly needs to “get better” for us to compete with Bama and UGA if their higher rated recruiting classes weren’t being referenced?
Not up to speed here, but were any of the left-overs from former recruiting classes (that beat/competed with bama) worse than the class in question?
