'24 GA QB Jake Merklinger (Tennessee)

I dont know how good he actually is, but I do think it's a fact that he has D1 arm talent. He had some throws in game action against Ball State where you can sew that. Doesn't look stiff out there. Decent size at 6'2.

I probably trust him over most any potential low level QB transfers unless that QB had lit it up at the FCS level.

Otherwise you got 6'2 strong armed Gaston Moore in his 5th year in the offense in 2024.

I'm fine with that. I also argue that, if you are ever on your 3rd string QB then you're screwed regardless.

The fire Heupel crowd can kick rocks if they expect any coach to do well in the SEC with a third string QB.
I 100% agree with that premise, but the team we are chasing in the East has a 5* waiting as their 3rd string QB. Hard for me to figure as much as Kirby has seemed to mismanage QB's, that he still manages the quality depth at that position.

Kirby prob going to lose his other two QBs on the roster to the portal at the end of the year.

Beck will be back.

Brock will be a junior next year, and may or may not play his final year.

Stockton may stay, but who knows.
I could see Stockton entering the portal, but honestly he could/should have seen all this before he committed/signed with Georgia. It's not like they added some hotshot from the portal.
Every QB on that roster was already on the roster when he signed so maybe he just likes the culture and will wait his turn.
Who knows at this point?

Merklinger finished 13 of 19 passing for 191 yards and 3 TDs last night as Calvary Day romped to another easy win, 35-0 over Long County. He also tossed just his 2nd INT of the year.

Calvary Day has outscored their last 4 opponents 200-0.
What level of high school football is Merklinger playing?

HB is pretty accurate and can make all the throws. He can master the film room as well. He just can’t make his reads and decisions fast enough. He also has a very long and slow release. He never improved on all that. I had high hopes for him because you can typically fix some of these things. He never developed.
What proof do you have that he can “make all the throws?”

I watched his highlights after Bama game, trying to focus on something other than the depressing out come… this kid is legit. He throws on the run very well. He’s accurate and has a great feel for pressure in the pocket. He’s exactly what we need (after Nico)
What we need to push Nico to be better. GBO!!

I’m telling y’all I think he will push Nico when he gets on campus next year. I also think we take a transfer QB via the portal, or via a graduate transfer.

Hope so but I feel like he’s gonna be the odd one between Nico and GMAC
