'22 GA RB Justin Williams (Cal)

The 6-foot, 205-pound Williams said Heupel and Mack visited with him for “about an hour” Wednesday night. They reiterated to him “just that they need me and they really want me at UT, pretty much,” something he has heard from them on a regular basis since getting a scholarship offer from Tennessee on Oct. 29.

“They were just saying how bad they needed a guy to come in and make an immediate impact,” said Williams, who attended the Vols’ home games Nov. 13 against top-ranked Georgia and returned to Knoxville on Nov. 20 for Tennessee’s game against South Alabama.

His official visit with the Vols is scheduled for the weekend of Dec. 10, the final weekend before the Early Signing Period. After his two trips to Tennessee last month, he said there’s “not necessarily” much more he needs to see there.

“Just going up there just to revisit the coaches, get to see a little bit more of Knoxville and stuff like that,” he said. “Other than that, all good.”
In addition to hearing plenty from Tennessee’s coaches, he said some of the Vols’ current commitments — including their two newest additions, fellow Atlanta-area players Joshua Josephs and Christian Harrison — have stayed in contact with him recently and have made it clear that they want him to be part of Tennessee’s class.

“There’s definitely been a lot of outreach from players and guys that may be going there trying to get me to come join them,” Williams said. “It’s a big Georgia group. They’re definitely trying. I mean, I’m in the little loop with them, and I know them pretty well.

“I’ve been knowing (Josephs) before, like, for a while now. Me and Josh go back. He’s been on me for a while.”

Vols offensive line commitment Maurice Clipper Jr. of Milton (Ga.) High School is among the other Tennessee-bound players recruiting Williams for the Vols.

Williams said he’s still planning to announce his final decision on Dec. 15, the first day of the Early Signing Period. He’s set to graduate from East Paulding this month and arrive at the school of his choice in January as an early enrollee.
