Len'Neth Whitehead thought he would be ready to make his decision this week — but he's not. The two-way star at Athens Academy (Ga.) planned to announce his commitment this Friday, but he is "torn" between
South Carolina and
Tennessee, so he has decided to postpone that announcement.
"I am not sure when I am going to be ready, but I am going to take more time and try to figure this out," said Whitehead. "I talked it over with my family and I still need to evaluate the two schools some more." Whitehead was back in Columbia over the weekend and there is likely to be one more trip to Knoxville before a decision is made. "I had another good visit to South Carolina and it is a program I could see myself being a part of helping them become a bigger program in the SEC. I feel very comfortable there and I love the fans.
"I want to get back up to Tennessee one more time. I want to spend more time with the coaches there to get a better feel of things. I like the culture, I like how the fans love their football and I just need get back up there." Not just the assistant coaches, but head coaches
Will Muschamp and
Jeremy Pruitt have been in regular contact with Whitehead the last few days. Each School knew a decision was planned, so they have been working extra hard to try be the school selected.
"It has been a rough few days because I have thought about it a lot and tried to figure it out, but I am not ready," said Whitehead. "Both schools have their pros and cons, so I was really struggling with a decision. "I want to have more talks with the coaches, I want to get a better feel for things and make sure I know before I commit."
One key factor is position and fit. Whitehead was offered by most schools early to play linebacker outside of Wisconsin. Once it got out that he preferred running back, some schools started saying athlete and others went all in with the offensive approach. He is set now that he wants to carry the football.
"I have made the decision that I want to play running back in college, so I have to figure out which school is the best fit for me there now," said Whitehead. "I want to continue to talk with each school about it, take one or two more visits, then try to figure it out."
