They never invested in their program from the start. Check out the 30 For 30 segment on "The U." They just had so much local talent that they would overcome the odds stacked against them. It's a private university and surprisingly small with only 12k undergrads. I think it's worth mentioning costs associated with running a university in Coral Gables vs some of the rural cities/towns that you often find other big time programs.
