- VolReportFollowing Jaden Reddell's commitment to Georgia, the majority had Amir Jackson labeled a heavy Florida lean.
However, the four-star is keeping his options open, and he showed that with a trip to Knoxville for the 865Live event.
Jackson, who Tennessee is recruiting as a tight end, "had a great time" in Knoxville, and the Vols figure to be a player in his recruitment as they look for a second tight end in this class.
To be fair, part of that is because we weren't heavily recruiting him until then, either. That doesn't make him a must-get, but does help to explain his relative anonymity.Would be cool go get him but im not gonna lie - I never heard of him like three weeks ago so I can’t act like he’s this major must get
I'd prefer one of those two and then a portal TE with some experience, but I agree we need two more. Lose Warren and Castles, and then Davis is the only scholarship TE going into 2024 with experience, and that is assuming he is healthy, which has been a challenge over the last year.I want this kid, and the kid from Utah. That would give us 3 solid TE prospects that all have a year to get better before getting on campus. The TE’s will see a ton of time in the offense. Moving wide or tight, in a hurry up offense, the TE can be deadly.
Just my opinion, but both Echols and this kid can compete as a freshman. Especially if they are EE. The kid out of Utah is probably 2 years away from having the body to compete. I think we will be ok without a portal TE unless a can’t miss comes up.I'd prefer one of those two and then a portal TE with some experience, but I agree we need two more. Echols is still pretty raw as an offensive player. Not sure on Jackson and his ability to compete early, but TE is a notoriously difficult position for young guys to make significant early contributions, especially if they are expected to block regularly.Just my opinion, but both Echols and this kid can compete as a freshman. I agree with you in terms of “difficult for young guys.” However, with the type of offense we have, the mismatches will be there and we can exploit. Also, blocking should be easier most times because of about a 1 second delay in reaction with the way our RPO game and inside zone running game is.Echols is still pretty raw as an offensive player. -VQSpeaking of tight end, Amir Jackson has bumped up his official visit to next weekend. He was supposed to visit in November for the Georgia game but that has changed and likely his timeline has been bumped up as well so Tennessee will need to present well next weekend, building on the momentum they generated with his last visit back in May.
