'21 GA WR Julian Nixon (Tennessee signee)

I cannot tell a lie...this is a great commit!

Why do you like this pick up so much?

I don't not like it, but its the one I'm least psyched about of the three. Although on the VQ instant react video they said he could be a David Martin type, who I was a fan of back in the day.

If you look at 247Sports, they don't think too highly of him. They had him ranked as the #9 overall prospect a few years back, but the VQ guys said he tore his ACL his sophmore season and ballooned up to over 250lbs. Guess he finally started to realize that football is his ticket and shed 30lbs to get to his playing weight now.

They also weren't convinced he ends up at WR. Which makes sense. Kid still has 2-3 years of growing left. Could be a WR, TE, or somewhere on defense.

It’s really simple.
I know I’ll catch heat for it but If Kirby doesent get over the hump he’ll be fired long before Pruitt. They can say what they want but just because your at the dance it don’t mean anything if you leave alone. He has a brain fart and throws his WRs under the bus. The last thing they need is another L in column and they’re coming.

Tennessee is coming.
Have no clue what the future holds, but UGA gave Richt 15 years because he was able to field competitive teams once every 5 years. They seem to be the exact opposite of Florida who’ll let go of a coach at the first sign of issues.

I won't speak for Newt...but as for me I see the next JJ, and it really befuddles me that everybody doesn't see that.

It seems like after watching him for years that you guys would quit getting hung up on speed..a tough, nasty dawg attitude is just as important.

Don't get me wrong, I want speed too, but you need that attitude on a team.

haha great minds think alike that being said the David Martin Comp fits also he seems like a cross between the two.

exactly what i said as well.

and we've added a lot of speed to this roster with the 20 class and several of hte lower ranked guys in this class....i think there's been a definite speed upgrade on the roster.

this kid reminds of JJ, Kelvin Benjamin, Devin Funchess. and yeah, DAvid Martin is a good comparison too.....big, physical, large catch radius....should be a very good possession receiver and red zone threat.

If his knee is recovered, he'll be a player. He was highly sought after before that injury.

a year out from an ACL is not that big a deal these days especially for someone that does not rely on speed as their first trait. also a possible shortened Sr. season via corona could be a blessing for someone in his position if he focuses on putting in the work in the downtime.

Fact of fiction: Dylan Brooks is the biggest recent commitment for the Vols:

Farrell’s take: FICTION. I love Brooks as a player and he’s obviously highly ranked but to me
Julian Nixon is a commitment fans can get a bit more excited about. Brooks will be a terror off the edge, but Nixon is a huge wide receiver who can play the role the Vols were hoping
Arik Gilbert would play had he chose the Vols over LSU.
Kamar Wilcoxson is also an important pick-up at defensive back and building the defense is key but Nixon will make things a lot easier for
Harrison Bailey down the line.

Setting up the inevitable drop in Brooks rankings, you know since he chose UT and all...

wow. interesting take.

Brooks' stock dropped IMMEDIATELY when he committed.
He is still one oft he best football players in the Country and the best pass rusher. I doubt he will drop in the rankings unless he has a problem with injuries. It appears we are putting a class together which resembles classes we recruited in the mid/early 1990s. Happy days are here again.

Bump because we are all fixated on the “next” big fish we might get.. this dudes a monster red zone threat and could transition into a TE hybrid
