At 6-foot-3, 185 pounds, Keyton provides quarterbacks a big frame to throw the ball to. He is a phenomenal athlete and can accelerate past defenders in man coverage, and he can high point 50/50 balls. His hands are elite. He controls the ball really well and easily catches balls that aren’t in his frame; he has very strong hands. He is an excellent route runner and doesn’t present any glaring weaknesses as a player.

It had seemed for some time that Ramel Keyton (Marietta, Ga.) was going to choose Tennessee, and on Wednesday he finally picked up the orange hat.

The 4-star wide receiver is a strong addition to the Class of 2019 for the Volunteers.

Let’s get to know the seventh commit of the class.

Skill set: At 6-foot-3, 184 pounds, Keyton has great size, which makes him a matchup problem on the outside. He’s also not afraid to come over the middle. Watching his film, his instincts in the open field are apparent. Keyton also possesses the requisite size the coaching staff values at the position. He will be asked to block on the outside and be a vertical threat in Tyson Helton’s offense.

Immediate impact: Keyton said early on that he wanted to go somewhere he could make a difference. Tennessee is thin at wide receiver, which will allow him a chance to compete early on. Jauan Jennings and Marquez Callaway will be seniors and the likely starters on the outside when Keyton gets to campus. He could take over the starting role by his sophomore season, though.

Fitting into the program: Tennessee’s coaching staff places a high value on prospects who love to play football. The staff is trying to build a championship culture, and the coaches believe that starts with recruiting prospects who play hard every play. Keyton falls into this category. He’s a hard worker who doesn’t take plays off.

Recruiting at the position: Keyton is the first wide receiver commitment in the class. Tennessee will probably take three wide receivers this cycle but two is a possibility if the staff decides to load up at another position. There is no imminent commitment coming from another wide receiver. Tennessee will reshuffle its board in June during the prospect camps. Look for the staff to begin aggressively pursuing more options after the camps.
